Question:
Does hunger decrease once on solid food?
I am 1 week post op and still on liquids. I'm hungry all day and always watching the clock for the next drink. Does this end after eating solid foods. I just don't feel satisfied. Is this what they call "head hunger?" — donna L. (posted on February 12, 2002)

Donna: It does get easier. By 5 days out I was ready to kill for a
yogurt. Every once in awhile, about every 28 days, I get very hungry. ;)
Other than that time of month, a meal fills me up for a long time. I'm not
a snacker. I just make sure to get in a lot of protein cause that will
keep me full longer. Hang in there hon!

When I was one week post-op, I drank constantly. I had a large glass of V8
or Crystal Lite by my side at all times. I sipped on them all day long -
didn't wait any specified time before I got something else to drink. I
never got hungry because I was always full of liquids. I don't know what
your doctor's regimen is, but I left the hospital on full liquids. The V8
has some nutritional value and is filling. I drank between 30 and 40
ounces of it a day and in 12 days I lost 30 pounds.
Hang in there - it does get much better.

Eating solids will TOTALLY make you feel fuller. For example, I could
probably drink 32 oz. of a sugary drink before feeling any satisfaction at
all, but after 2 oz. of chicken, I'm stuffed! WLS has SO much to do with
putting tension on your new pouch to make you feel full, whether or not you
really are.

Hang in there. I am 5 weeks post-op and yes when on liquids I was starving
all the time. Now that I am eating I feel satisfied.
