I am 15 months post and still cannot eat ANY type of pasta without intense pain that lasts for 2- 4 hours. Same with rice. Every few months I try a little, but always the same result. I have given up on pasta and rice. i also can only eat one or two bites of any kind of meat or chicken. I am adjusting to the loss and it is worth it. Expect a mourning period for food, it will pass. Good Luck

I have no problem at all eating carbs namely bread and pasta. I usually choose high fiber pastas and bread like whole wheat. I ate it since very early on. Everything in moderation works for me (except high fat and concentrated sugars)

mr dr. says it not the fact that its carbs...its the consistency of the food. bread, rice and pasta swell with water, so if you eat them till you feel full the juices naturally occuring in your stamache can swell them and cause your pouch to be to full, creating an uncomfortable feeling or even vomiting if they get stuck going down or trying to pass through. i am 11 weeks post op and cannot eat any of these things. i use crackers to make "sandwiches" with tuna, cheese or egg salad.

Speaking as a former carb addict preop, I now have some problems with them. I tried a diet french bread pizza and regreted the day I tried it. I ate about a third of it and had to let it go. With rice, it seems I cannot eat chinese dishes because it is fried and firmer than home cooked rice. Even their steamed rice is too much also. I can do some of the lean cuisine and WW rice dishes because they are usually in sauces and more moist. I ate so many mashed potatoes post op that they started making me puke after a while. I don't touch them now. The rice and mashed potatoes seem to sit on my chest. I can do noodles pretty well. I do buy frozen spaghetti and pasta dishes with high protein and low fat.
