Question:
Can folks with ADD take Stratera after WLS and it work?

I know some time released meds don't work on WLS folks. Just curious if anyone knows if Stratera can be used. I thinks I gots Adult ADD and would be curious to try and see if Stratera would help me with my dang memory and other things. I have adapted well with ADD over there years and just thought I was alittle "slow" but after viewing ADD information IM almost certain thats been a major problem in my life. Stratera looks safe but ... would it absorb well, I wonder in our pouches?    — WLS_Deb (posted on February 11, 2005)

I took Strattera before WLS and still continue to take it. I am not sure how I would get through a day, doing what needs to be done, without it! This drug has been a real help to me! Good luck!

I'm not sure about Stratera, but most meds are absorbed just not sure how much. So most likely you might end up having to take a larger dose than normal due to malabsorption. I had to increase my depression meds dosage 9 months PO because it was clear I wasn't getting enough. This is the dose I had been on for the previous 4-1/2 years with excellent control. A 10mg increase and things settled back down.

My husband had WLS in April 2003 and recently started taking Strattera. He was started on 40mg and is on 60mg per day. He says it is a miracle drug for him. So he must be absorbing it just fine. He is much calmer and able to get more work done. He works a full time job and has also been doing taxes for 15 years. This time of year used to be a nightmare, with all the tax work, but he is really doing well this time.

Personally I don't think Stratera works at all, but that is neither here nor there. I had surgery in May of 1999. So I suppose I am somewhat of an expert at this point. As myself and my Dr.'s have decided, malasorpsion is usually sparodic. I take Adderall XR which is extended release, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Usually it does, sometimes it is better than others. Also it seems to make a difference if I am actively losing weight (Metabolism speeds up maybe?) I am presently losing weight after having my baby 5 months ago and I keep having to up, up my dose. Hope this helps.
