Question:
Has anyone heard of taking baby to avoid clots prior to surgery
I was reading somewhere that taking baby asprin can reduce your chances of having blood clots and was wondering if anyone had heard of this or tried it prior to surgery? — Kim R. (posted on December 18, 2002)

I would definitely talk to your sugeon about this. Mine said do not take
any type of aspirin for 2 weeks prior because it thins your blood too much
and could cause excessive bleeding during surgery which could result in a
blood transfusion. Best to mention to your dr. before taking anything
before surgery. Best of luck to you. RK

Kim, Do not take the asprin without the surgeon's knowledge!!! The asprin
is a blood thinner and they may not want you to take incase there's a
problem then your blood won't be able to clot and you can bleed out. With
that being said, asprin is usually taken for heart disease. Also, during
surgery and after they should put those boots that inflate on and off on
you. This is for the circulation while you're laid up. Also, when you're
able to: Get up and walk. Keep walking around the hospital. Not only does
it help with the clots, it helps with the gas from the anesthesia. Best
wishes
