Question:
What exactly are pork rinds made of?
I know they have protein in them as I have read the labels on the bag. But the name itself is keeping me from trying them. Anyone know exactly what a pork rind is? Hopefully its not as bad as what I think it is. — Cindy R. (posted on November 13, 2002)

Pork rinds are deep fried pork skins. (Sometimes they have a little fat
attached to them, too.) It's strange because I absolutely LOVE them, and
one serving has like 9 grams of protein, but it says on the label "not
a significant source of protein". Well excuse me, but 9 grams is 9
grams! Anyone who can explain this to me?

Cindy ....think of them as eating bacon without so much fat. I know some
people don't think they sound appetizing just because of their name, but
they really are delicious. They sure make a wonderful snack.

Hellooooo... they are fried!!! Just be careful you dont dump! Personally,
I cant get past the leftover pig hairs on them.... so I dont eat them at
all.

I, too, thought pork rinds would be a great snack. Loved them pre-surgery.
Tried them one night and got one of those that is a little hard &
crunchy. Before I realized it I had swallowed the hard part. PANIC! I
kept remembering what my surgeon said........if you can't chew it until
it's liquid, SPIT IT OUT! Well, within 20 minutes I was writhing on the
bed in pain. Evidently the piece tried to get stuck in the stoma. It did
pass, but for a while there I was afraid I was going to have to go in and
have it removed. I know some people do fine with them postop, just be
careful! Learn from my mistake.
