Question:
has weight loss been slow for those whove had the
I was to have an "OPen RNY DISTAL", and went to another doc who was highly recomemdedand decided to do and "RNY MEDIAL".Now i'm concerned that I should of had the distal, being I would be losing more weight faster. I started at 269 on may 1st and since the surgery I'm 248.Shouldn't mt weight loss be more or is it because i have the medialand does this mean my weight loss will be slower? — barbara R. My surgeon does the medial and I have seen so many successes at the support
group meetings that it is very inspirational. My friend Angela Flewelling
(on this site with pics) started at almost 300 lbs. and now weighs 135,
without having any excess skin removed. At your start weight you should do
just fine being a medial. Most do fine with a proximal. And HELLO...you
have lost 21 lbs. ALREADY!! In just 2 short weeks. Congrats to you on
that! Compared to many on here, I am a *slow loser*. My surgeon disagrees
with that and tells me that I am way ahead of my schedule. Start 250, now
169. 6 months post and have lost 83% of my excess already! Relax and ENJOY
this journey, it will only happen once!

You are only about 2 weeks post-op and worried because you have only lost
21 lbs? That is doing great, and probably has nothing to do with distal or
proximal or medial. Since you were only 269 to start, you are probably a
lot better off not having a distal as you were not super morbid obese. Just
be patient and the weight will come off fairly steadily. Good Luck and
welcome to the other side.
