Question:
? Nausea following protein intake?
Im posting for one of my friends who is experiencing nausea following eating protein. She is 6 months post op and has lost 84 pounds. She is eating chicken, fish and ground turkey. Following surgery she is lactose intolerant and also soy intolerant, so yogurt and cottage cheese are out. She has been using protein drinks but was looking for help. She would rather eat than drink her meals. She describes her feeling after eating as "overfull" and has slowed her eating down even, with no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated! I know you said she has slowed her eating down, but has she tried to cut
back on how much she is eating? I know that may sound stupid, but maybe
she is eating too much for her tummy. Just a thought. Good Luck. I get
neasus after drinking a shake, but only b/c I normally drink it too
fast...they really fill me up.

If the protein drink has a lot of air in it, it makes me queasy. By
accident I found that letting it sit in the freezer until it was kind of a
frozen mush, was a nice treat. I use that Lactaid milk and maybe some
rasberry crystal light. It tastes like a strawberry shake. Crushed ice
helps too. It tastes better really cold.
I have loved milk all my life and now it doesn't sit well with me. I buy
this lactaid stuff, ( how can I possibly call it milk) it works well for
getting in some low fat dairy product.
Right now nothing really sounds good to eat. So The protein drink for me
is a life saver. I do try to get in something hi in protein a couple times
in the day, but lately it kind of sticks in my mouth. I guess i need to
search out some different foods if this keeps up.

You didn't say what drinks she has used or how much of what she uses with
what? It may be the brand she is using or the formula she has tried. I
usually drink my protein BEFORE a meal to take the edge off my appetite so
I don't eat too fast or too much. I'm 7 yrs post-op, still use protein
supps to get a guaranteed amount of protein. I eat protein foods, but never
count them toward my daily total. By using the protein supps, I also am
freeing myself to eat the rest of my meal in a balanced fashion, a bit of
complex carb, green leafies, fruit-------- balance.
