Question:
I am two weeks post op lap gastric bypass. I am having a horrible time getting in
water or any protein supps. I am actully getting in soft solids fine. I'm even up to tuna fish! But it isn't enough. Plus, I feel like I'm dying of thirst. Any suggestions? — Rebecca L. (posted on April 7, 2001)

I found it helpful to keep a water bottle, or the "jug with the
straw" that I brought home from the hospital, with me at all times. I
carried it with me everywhere I went, constantly sipping. You'll be
surprised how those sips add up throughout the day. We're all accustomed
to "gulping"...it's hard at first to break that lifetime habit
and learn to sip small amounts, and it takes a conscious effort to do that.
You probably ARE a little dehydrated, and that's why you're feeling so
thirsty. I also had a hard time with plain water, but tea and Crystal
Light worked well for me. Just keep working at it...getting enough fluids
is critically important post-op, and later will be a very important factor
in speeding your weight loss. Good luck!
