Question:
How wls saved my life
Before I had wls I was scared and felt alone.I found this web site and started reading hundreds of profiles and before and after pictures.I would sit up all night sometimes and wish that I could be like all these people who have saved their lives and changed them as well.I started looking into wls and after 12 months of pre-testing and countless Dr appointments I had wls on Dec 1 2003.My starting weight was 565 lbs(my highest was 598 lbs).Today I weigh 251 lbs and feel so alive.I am 45 and I never thought i'd live this long.My dad died at the age of 45 and he weighed over 500 lbs at the time of his death,my Brother Richard died at the age of 26 he weighed over 500 lbs at the time of his death.I am the only male survivor left in my family and I thank God I got a second chance.I sit here today and I still read profiles every day and the before and after pictures and I feel so blessed to be here today.I miss my Dad and Brother and I recently went home to Worcester Mass for a visit my first time since wls and I went to the graves of my Father and Brother and I couldn't stop crying and I said "Dad,Rich i'm still alive I made it"...I loved them so much and if only they where giving a chance like I was it would all be different.WLS saved my life and this web site played a major part in my desision to have wls.I thank all of the people who have posted on this web site for giving me the courage to save my life.May God bless each and every one of you..........steve — SteveApril45 (posted on September 20, 2005)

Thanks for sharing your story, I needed to hear it today. I too am
thankful for the blessings WLS has brought my way even as I struggle to
keep the weight off after two and a half years.

You should be an inspiration for many who are just thinking. Yes, this
surgery does save lives, and I am happy to hear that you are one of them.
Your brother and father are two angels who watch over you daily and who
have helped to make this possible. God bless you, and keep up the
wonderful work you have done. Missy.

Right on Steve! You made my day! I would like to get to know you. I just
had my WLS back in April 18th of this year, and would like to compare stats
as I started out at 545 lbs as my heaviest back in October of last year and
a week before surgery I was at 536 lbs. I am currently down to 414 lbs as
of yesterday. You are one heck of a inspiration to me. I just turned 40 in
June and like you I lost my brother back in 2003 and that gave me more
motovation to go thru WLS. Also I had a perfectly gooding blonde stranger
come up to me back in the summer of 2003 and she passed me a note at the
counter at a gas station while I was paying for my gasoline. That was the
icing on the cake right there.... I gave my employer a 2 month notice that
I was quiting and the rest is History. Here I am today, only 5 monthes
post-op and -120 some lbs and feel 10 years younger. God Bless. Tom

What a great story to share with all the people who either had or going to
have surgery. It makes a person step back and think. I say WAY TO GO!!!
Keep up the good work. I have to say that you gave me something to really
think about. I had my surgery 1 1/2 years ago and I have lost 125 pounds. I
feel so much better. I do want to lose 30 more pounds yet and they are
coming off hard and I find myself being down and out about it. Keep up your
good work. I am sooo proud of you. I think your story may actually save
someone else. God Bless :)
