Question:
Is the increase in water responsible for weight increase???
2 yrs PO and down 150lbs to 238.5-Just went off my cycle on Sunday/Monday an have started increasing my water intake and getting back on schedule with eating several small meals throughout the day and drinking water-I beleive i am getting around 80oz right now and going for more-Is that the reason the scale shows me today at 245!!!! Even on my cycle the scale only went up to 241 but my jeans feel tighter and my face looks bloated-Am I still holding the weight from my cycle and it just hasn't dropped yet-I know it didn't put on all this weigh in the past few days-Should I take a water pill — TotallyTori (posted on March 9, 2005)

Don't be concerned! If you body is not used to receiving that much water
intake it needs to adjust to the amount of water you are taking in now. I
would give yourself a few weeks for your body to adjust to the new water
you are drinking and eventually your weight would even out. Please stop
weighing yourself too!!! You will just put yourself back into that
destructive mode!!! Everyone's body sometimes has to compensate for extra
water or stress and may move up and down a few pounds periodically. I
would only be concerning if your weight continued to go up even after
drinking the correct amount of water for a good while. Even so, water is
good for you! Stay strong and don't fret! Jen

I know that you said that you are getting about 80 oz of water but did you
possibly slack off on your water for a short period of time? I read
recently that when you do that your body will hoard the fluids that you put
into it and store it in your bowels for the processing of your waste. So,
you could be retaining water because of that. I also read in the same
article that the more water you put into your body the more that the body
flushes out all the waste in your system. Is there any possibility that you
do have a problem with water retention or something? I would not take a
water pill unless you asked your doctor about them if they are something
that you could take. If it is an over the counter med it is something that
you should check out with your doctor because of other interactions with
medications or other conditions that you may have. Just give it time and it
will come off. Have you talked with your GYN about the water retention
maybe he/she can prescribe something for you for during your cycle?

10 glasses of water is absolutely NOT too much. It is minimum. You need to
drink enough to have your urine be very clear pale yellow. the weight is
likely connected to your cycle. You also might have been dehydrated before
and now you body is catching up on its fluids. On the rare possibility that
you are retaining fluids for a reason other than your cycle maybe you
should contact your doc, let them know about the water retention especially
since your face is bloated. Let me know how you are doing!
