Question:
How many grams of protein per day after 1 years do you consume presently?
I am bulding musle and was thinking about increasing my protein. I was wondering for those who are post-ops of at least year or more ..how many grams a day are you consuming? also which foods or bars do you feel helped you reach your goal with good results??? Terry, I am over two years post op and I take in at least 65, and sometimes
90 grams of protein a day in whey supplements (I use the chocolate ProScore
100). I am not currently weight lifting, but I'm planning plastics within
the next 6 months or so and I want to be able to heal well from that.
Anything I get in from food is extra, but I don't count that toward my
total since we don't absorb food protein as well. I've found that
regardless of activity level, if I get in less than 60 grams in supplements
I start feeling tired and sluggish.

Terry, I'm I'll be 2 years post-op this Feb. I'm only drinking one protein
shake a day 35 grams. I have stayed at a certain weight for over 6 months
or more. Could it be because I'm not getting enough protein? I haven't
excercised in over a year, and I really don't eat all that much during the
day either.
I'm also trying to get plastic surgery done in the next 6 months, I'm just
awaiting insurance approval. Should I also be drinking more protein to
help heal better after surgery?
Thanks Trisha Sizemore

Thanks all for responding. It is my understanding since I posted this
yesterday and did some reading that the amount to consume is half of your
current body weight. Protein helps burn fat...so thats why body builders
use it to reduce the fat an build muscle even quicker. I asked because
someone in a discussion group was bumping hers up to over 100 grams...I
must admit she looks like a knockout :-) So I am gonna increase mine
gradually. I am heading to hit the 100 gram mark at the end..not sure how
long it will take me to reach this since I am at about 60 grams averaging
daily. I guess time will tell if it really works.

Hi Terry! I'm 13 months post-op and am starting the same regimine. I shoot
for 60-90g of protein/day. I found a great line of high-protein products,
shakes @ 35g, great tasting bars @ 22g and even supplements like Rhodiola,
HCA, CLA, ChromPic etc. I'm having a problem with the high protein intake
causing constipation and I even found the slightly sweetened fiber bits
that you can sprinkle on yogurt and stuff. Email me if you are interested
in more info. [email protected]

60- 90. I try to drink 2 protein drinks a day. Each has about 30 plus
grams of protein. I use a protein mix from the health food store (22
grams), skim milk (7 grams) add yogurt (4 to 6 oz)and fruit. I'm getting
my protein and fiber. You can even add powder milk to add more protein.
There is a book that has some great shake recipes. Its called L.A SHAPE
DIET book.

I am 10+ yrs out, but very distal RNY. I use 180g daily (that's 6 drinks
of 30g each). When I work out, I add 1-2 extra drinks, depending on how my
day is going. If I can add 2, it's 30g on the way to the gym and 30g in
the locker room immediately after. The 180g is use is volume, appetite,
craving control, so if I'm actually SPENDING protein, I add more. I use
ProScore 100 choco mostly, but on the run, use Chanpion Pure Whey Stack
choco, too.
