Question:
Which should you count and another question on carbs
I am getting truly confused. I know that you can subtract fiber from the total carbs and get the net carbs but what are the "other carbs" listed on some items? And I bought some new low carb yogurt, but the fat was more than the regular fat free yogurt? Which is better? Truly confused here! :o) — dixieb (posted on February 24, 2004)

The "other" carbs are from sugar alcohols.

For example:

This is the nutritional info on the new Power Bar Pria Carb Select:

170 Calories (60 calories from fat)
Total fat 7 g
Cholesterol 5 mg
Sodium 90 mg
Total Carbs 22 g
Dietary Fiber 2 g
Sugars 1 g
Sugar Alcohol 18 g
NET (IMPACT) CARB: 2 g
Protein 10 g

Hope that helps!

Other carbs are sugar alcohols and they don't count in the net carbs either
because they don't affect insulin. I buy Blue Bunny Lite 85 yogurt - it's
great.

I just have to say that sugar alcohols do affect my insulin, they make me
sick, so I have to be careful not to get something with that in it, because
for me I really need sugar free, or something other than alcohols. But I
know some who can eat regular sugar. I would definately pay more attention
to carbs and sugar than fat, but you don't want to clog your arteries with
a ton of fat either. Well I confused my self, sorry!!! 369/253/?, surgery
