Ok Amy, you screwed up, now pick yourself up and get back on track!! You
have come too far to mess this up..Drop all carbs and eat pure protein for
a while. 2or 3 days and you will be back on track..I know its hard and you
do have to follow the rules but now you have this wonderful tool to help
you. If I can help you by talking to you, feel free to email me any time..I
want everyone to do as well as I have. This surgery gave me back my life

Hi Amy, I just wanted to tell you that I'm with you. I too have been
eating halloween candy (I don't dump) and I haven't been exercising
regularly. Today I raked in the yard until I got a blister and tonight I
walked a mile on the treadmill, and that's all good, but, I have been doing
the spit diet all day because I wanted to eat and taste food but not get
the calories and such. Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone.
I am starting over in the a.m. with protein and exercise, good luck to you
and please email me if you want to chat. 11 weeks post-op, down 45 lbs.

Great job on the 50 pounds, Amy!!!!!!! It's difficult but put the soda and
candy away and stick with the protiens for a few days. Halloween and the
upcoming holidays are the most difficult times for us all. You can do it,
we all fall off every once in a while. Just gotta get back on. :)

If you feel the need for pop, why not switch to diet? Regular pop has alot
of sugar, and carbs and we dont need these... I have diet coke or diet
pepsi everyday, and have you tried any protien bars? They really satisfy
the cravings, I have found a good one you might try its Advant Edge, the
chocolate cream pie, and strawberry mouse. I'm like you I like the real
stuff too, so I dont think having 1 small piece here and there will hurt
you, but force yourself to have only the one small piece. We had this to
learn control, and change our eating habits. "Remember out of sight
out of mind" Good luck and I hope you get back on track.

I'm 2+ years out and I've gotten on the candy kick about three times over
the last couple years. It is very hard to beat. I found that I just have to
go cold turkey on the sweets, "even artifical sweeters". At least
for me they make me crave the real thing. Stop all candy and pop for a few
days at least. When you do start pop again, go diet with Splenda or some
other artifical sweetner in it. It will make it take 75% like real pop (I
called regular pop, Sugar Pop now). It also will take out much of the fiz
which is a heck of alot easier on the pouch. But you will just have to go
cold turkey on all the sweets because you probally won't be able to stop at
"alittle". Alittle will only keep the craving going anyway. It's
to bad we are "naugthy" and get ourselves back into this is'nt
it. ;)

Throw away the Halloween candy, and begin drinking diet soda. If you like
7up, try diet 7up. It tastes the same, and I've heard that clear soda is
better for you than brown soda (I can't remember the name of the ingrediant
that makes it worse for us though). It's can be difficult to get back on
track, but these two issues (the candy and the pop), are easy fixes. YOU
CAN DO THIS. YOU NEED TO DO THIS, YOU DIDN'T HAVE SURGERY JUST TO BE THE
SAME AS YOU USED TO!! NOW THROW AWAY THAT CANDY, GRAB A DIET SODA AND WATCH
THE POUNDS MELT AWAY! =).

I agree with the previous poster except where the pop is concerned. DO NOT
DRINK CARBONATED DRINKS!!!!
We had a demonstration at a support group meeting that shows why. Get a 20
ounce bottle of carbonated beverage and put a balloon over the top of it -
the balloon expands a lot. Do the same thing with a bottle of Crystal
Light or water and nothing happens. That air that filled the balloon and
stretched it out will do the same to your pouch.
There is no magic answer for your problem: you are going to have to go
cold turkey and get rid of the stuff you shouldn't have. I would suggest
going on nothing but protein for a few days to get the sugar out of your
system. And, please leave the carbonated beverages alone.

I am 9 months PO today and Saturday night was the first time I have had
anything to drink but water, diet snapple and crystal light. I bought a 20
oz caffeine free diet coke and drank about 1/3 of it. It was okay, but not
how I remembered it. I lived on diet coke before surgery. I will finish
the bottle over the next few days and when I have a strong desire for one
will get one, but in general I don't see it coming back into my daily life.
I drank very cautiously because I did not want to end up with serious
belching and feel sick. I guess the part for me that is good, is no I have
something I can drink if I meet someone just to drink and not eat.
Otherwise it was only water as I don't drink tea or coffee. So it's an
expansion of what I can do in social situations. But I would not have felt
safe trying it much before now.
<p>The candy you need to make a choice about. If you cannot leave it
alone, don't buy the crap. There is nothing wrong with admitting you have
a problem with it and cannot control it if it's around. I am able to deal
with having a bag of gummy life savers in my house but after I take the 5
out I put the bag back in a drawer. Out of sight, out of mind. Then I'm
making the decision to have it instead of grabbing without thinking. You
need to reprogram you brain is the bottom line. You need to decide what
you want to accomplish and how you are going to do it. I have never dumped
on any of the amounts of sugar I have eaten but the most was about 12 grams
and typically it's 7 or less. I did not feel as good with the higher
amount but no official dumping. Just because I can tolerate sugar does not
mean I have to indulge in it all the time. It's not easy seeing all the
halloween leftovers at work but I just keep on walking, because who knows
what habit will get started if I indulge. I'm much better doing that
indulgence when I am thinking about it and choosing to have something
really good. It all comes down to choices!
