Question:
How long is a tub of Protein good for once open?
I have been searching and searching and can't find the answer. Hubby and I are still pre op but I was tryting to get things in order as we have dates early Spring '04. Once a tub of Protein powder is open what is it's shelf life? I was planing to have several different kinds of shakes available during each month so we don't get board with one flavor etc etc... This could potentially have us with several tubs of different flavored shakes open for a month or two or even three. I do not want it to go bad. Will keeping it in the freezer help extend the shelf life? — Pookie B. (posted on October 18, 2003)

You might ask the folks at GNC, or even the Vitalady... I am sure one of
them know... I can't imagine it would go bad so to speak, but it might not
taste too fresh... the freezer idea sounds good, but as far as going bad I
don't know... I'll look forward to seeing this answer as well...

It depends on the type of protein. Soy protein (I use the spiru-tein
shakes) are lactose based, therefore, once open they have a shelf-life of a
couple of months. Whey protein, open, will last for years. I just buy my
soy protein in the smaller containers. That's the info I got a the Vitamin
Shoppe.

With both you and your DH being post-op no can of protein mix is going to
be around along enough to go bad. Now if you had a barrel of it, then you'd
have something to worry about. LOLOLO
Blessings and Best Wishes!

If the whey product is fresh, you've got a couple years. Be sure to check
th dates. Someone told me they'd seen a bottle of protein that was
disconintued in *1997* ln a shelf in a small local store!
