Hello! Your profile doesn't have much info, but it looks liek you must have started out something like me - I'm 5'2 and 1/2 and was 235 lbs. At three months I think I was down 55 lbs. On Oct 7th I'll be six months out and am currently down 80 lbs. I've posted week by week weightloss on my profile if you'd like to take a look. As a lightweight, you'll find you'll lose a little slower than those who have more to lose. You're doing great! Don't get discouraged!

I'm right there with you Amy. At 12 weeks out, I wanted to be at the 50 pound loss so bad, but I didn't get there. I was down about 45 at my 3 month check up (really 13 weeks). I had surgery on 6/12/2003 and just in the past week, I hit my 50 pound loss. You WILL get there. We're considered lightweights and it takes us longer. The good side is, that although I've only lost about 8 pounds in the last month, I've went down another clothing size (now a 16 from a 22snug) and it seems like my flabby skin is tightening up a little on my thighs - so - maybe slower is better. Regardless though, I'll take a slow loss over no loss anyday. :)

I am almost 3 months out, this Thursday, and I have lost 44 lbs.(date of surgery I was 251) I just saw my surgeon and expressed my concerns. He said that I looked great and that I'm right where I should be etc. Right after I saw him and he set me at ease, I dropped 7 lbs., in about a week. I had not done since right after surgery. Hence, I now think state of mind has a great deal to do with it. I am also not obsessing over the scale 3 times a day like I used. I am trying to stick to once a week. I know I feel fantastic. I have so much energy, and I have dropped clothing size. So 44 lbs., is not so bad. Don't be so hard on yourself...We will both get there, even if it takes us a little longer. Good Luck, Gabriela

Hi there - I'm 12 weeks as of today and have lost 44 lbs. I started out at 227 (I'm 5'1"), and weighed in at 183 this morning. I do see others losing weight at a much faster rate, but I have learned that I started out lighter than most people, and if I lost as fast as them, I'd probably look like a cancer patient after several rounds of chemo. I think I've learned a few things since I started this journey, and one of them is to not compare myself with others. I am really happy with what I've lost (I can't remember the last time I lost 44 lbs. in 3 months!), and know that I will continue to lose. I feel good about myself, and am only 18 lbs. away from my lowest weight in 16 years! I encourage you to really consider how far you've come in such a short time, and to concentrate on continuing to develop your good habits. Consider that if you keep losing weight at the rate you are, you will lose 68 more pounds in the next 5 months, which brings you to 100 (ok, 99 lbs) in 8 months. Not bad, if you ask me! Keep up the good work!

You are definitely NOT alone! I had lost 43 pounds at my 3 month mark (which occured at 13 weeks) and was also disappointed not to get to 50 like (it seemed to me) EVERYBODY else did. Now it's 2 weeks later and I can see a difference every day. It's not a race but we're still keeping score and it's hard to break the old ways of thinking. I REFUSE to weigh myself between doctor appointments and I understand that even if the weight is coming off slower than most, it's still coming off. We're all different, viva la difference!

Amy, thanks for posting that question. I am in the same situation. My surgeon says to keep plugging, that I am not alone and not to worry about the fast losers. It will get better. I am 8 1/2 weeks post-op and down a small 32 pounds. I will keep the faith.

Hi, I had VBG on 6/11/03 and have just now got to the 50lb weight loss mark. I was 215lb and am 5'0". I think you are doing great, just hang in there and it will come off. Do your basics and you should continue to do fine. I wish you much luck on your journey and may God bless. YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!!! Janice

I started at 5' and 200 lbs and at 7 months out I have only lost 47 lbs so I wouldn't be too upset - sounds like you are ahead of me!!!

I am glad to see I am not alone. I am 11 weeks out today and have lost approx. 36 pounds. I too had illusions of being down at least 50lbs by now. I have joined curves and it has made a difference. I started out at 5'2 and 234. As long as I am losing I feel ok but when I go for a week without any weightloss it gets frusterating. I am addicted to fruit carbs, watermelon and grapes. I dont go over board but I do crave them, I need to just say "NO" to them when they beg me to eat them. LOL

Oh, I totally know what your going through! I'll be 12 weeks this Friday (surgery was 7/11) and i've only lost 45 lbs. It can be so frustrating! I know I haven't been eating the wrong things and certainly not too much food either. So what it boils down too is that I know I definitely need to increase my protein (haven't had a shake in weeks!) and add exercise back in. I was doing so good for a while but haven't been to the gym in 3 weeks. Feel free to email me whenever you want to chat!

I too am waiting for my miracle. It is depressing sometimes and you get frustrated and worried about the way things are going to turn out. I see my surgeon for my 2 month visit next week. I can't wait to see what he says.

12 weeks and 41 lbs is excellent-it's only been 3 months and lets not forget the fact that you're a "lightweight" when it comes to having this surgery...you're under 200 lbs!!! You should be ecstatic!! Your weightloss has by no means STOPPED!! You will continue to lose and reach your goal weight by next Spring!! I'm sure you know you need to up your protein more and do more exercise....everyone needs more of both of those things! The first 1 1/2 yrs are EASY compared to after that time...when you know it's ALL up to you to lose more weight....everyone goes on plateaus....maybe you're on one now. You'll just have to adjust the way you eat and exercise for now......Don't be getting discourage but embrace the fact that you've lost this much already! Some people(like me) would love to be at the weight you started at!!

I also started at 237 and as of today (which is exactly 21 weeks) I have lost 70 lbs. At 12 weeks, I had lost around 46 lbs. We are lightweights and it does come off slower for us, but I couldn't be more pleased with my progress. Hang in there, it will come off eventually. Lap RNY 5/6/03 237/167/130
