Question:
Help, I have a cold and a thyroid disorder..........
What can I take. The pharmicist told me prior to my WLS to take coricidin HP because it's safe for people with a thyroid problem, however, I know that post WLS I cannot take it. I'm 6 weeks post op and I am miserable with a sinus headache and cold and I don't know what I can take..Please help. — Nikki D. (posted on August 4, 2003)

Not sure about safety, but I would think it reasonable to take zinc
lozenges. I'm not crazy about them, but I have friends who swear by them.
They look like regular little tablets that you suck on to help with sore
throats - and I overheard my PCP asking the pharmacist for some kind of
zinc but I think she wanted some kind of liquid form?? You can crush
Tylenol of course.

I'd get some suggestions from the pharmacist and make an appointment to see
your doctor. I'm sure there is something they can prescribe to get you
over this period. I have hypothyroid and it hasn't dawned on me what to
take when cold season comes around. This was a good question and one that
is making me think ahead of time. Hope you feel better soon. In the
meantime: up the vitamin C, zinc, and echineacia (sp) if you can take
that.
