Question:
Has anyone had a moderate arm lift where they only cut you under the arm?
I have heard of the moderate arm lift surgery where you are only cut under your armpit, and it is sometimes done along w/a breast lift. Has anyone had this done, or are there any websites to see this? thanks/ Patti Meadows/ e-mail: [email protected] — peppermintp (posted on June 20, 2003)

I am pre-op WLS, but a lady the other day posted on the message board about
a small anchor shaped incision under her arm up by the armpit, that they
pulled the lose skin out and removed it through that incision. I think she
did have it with a breast lift, I am sorry that I can not remember the name
of the lady. I just wanted you to know that I have heard of it done
without the huge scar down the arm.

Your talking about a modified brachioplasty. I'm having it done next
Friday. My incisions will be under the armpit. My doctor will be cutting
out where the underarm hair grows and then pulling the excess skin up and
cutting it off. I can't wait to see what my results are!!

Does anyone know how much this costs?

Patty, would you be kind enough to share the cost of your procedure. I'm
only 3 months post-op but this is the very first plastic surgery I plan to
have done. Thanks!

I don't know about the modified surgery, but I'm having a full
brachioplasty July 11th. I did hear someone say something about a smaller
anchor-shaped incision, but that you can't get as much of the hanging skin
removed this way. I have quite a bit to remove -- thought it's not hideous
looking now, but I don't like it! It's considered cosmetic, my insurance
won't pay for it, so since it's strictly cosmetic, I want it ALL removed!

The modified brachioplasty was done in 2 parts. I had liposuction of the
upper arms last year. They removed about a can of fat from each upper arm.
Then bandages are placed on the arms for about 2 months. It's annoying
but it does help. Liposuction shrinks the uppers arms to the point where
there small but you still have loose hanging skin. The second part of the
surgery is the modified brachioplasty. The doctor makes an incision under
the armpit and pulls the excess skin up and cuts it off and then sews it
back up so the scar will be under the armpit. The 2 part stage cost me
$3600 for the surgeon's fee ($1800 for the liposuction and $1800 for the
brachioplasty). I lost about 125 pounds and my arms looked terrible before
surgery. After the liposuction, I've probably lost about 3 inches off of
each arm. When they are measured, my upper arms are now considered
"small". Trust me, they never were before. If you've had
massive weight loss, this procedure might not be for you if you have a lot
of fat in your upper arms. However, if your like me, this is something to
consider. If a plastic surgeon doesn't know about this procedure, RUN from
them!!! A lot of the older plastic surgeons want to give the old slice
from elbow to the armpit incision. This is a wonderful alternative.
