Question:
2 Weeks Post Op, and I am able to consume 27 ounces of liquid. Should I be concerned?

I just got finished drinking a cup of water that holds 27oz of fluid, I have lost 30lbs so far and could barely drink the amount of fluids doc wanted me to take in but over the past 60 mins I just kept sipping broth and juice diluted with water, taking small sips and i finished the broth and the water-Is that good or bad-I am on full liquids now and the doc told me today that he wants to get in at least 40-50 oz of fluids-so did I just do a good thing-this has never happened to me before? Anyone else experience this??? Don;t feel full yet feel like I might be able to drink more water    — TotallyTori (posted on March 19, 2003)

That's only 2 oz per 5 min. I wish I could do it. I'm just not thirsty often. I think it's ok as long as you didn't feel any discomfort.

That's a good thing. The amount of fluid at one time is not a concern because it does not sit in the pouch. According to my dietition, fluids flow out of the pouch the same as when you pour a liquid through a funnel. The more fluids you can get in the better your weight loss will be. Good luck

That is great that you are doing so well with your fluids!! Don't worry! I know that I had the same concern at first, and my doctor told me that if I was drinking too much, it would come right back up! Hope this helps! God Bless, and best of luck to you!!

Many people report having difficulty taking bigger drinks or guzzling water post-op. Not me! I swear from Day 1 I could drink just as I did pre-op. Only thing that changed for me is that I used to drink everything with lots of ice, water only if it was ice cold. Now I prefer no ice, cold but not ice cold. You can't drink too much water (ok, you could I suppose but your pouch will tell you). But you can drink or eat at the wrong times (meaning at the same time). If you read the Pouch Rules for Dummies about water-loading you'll learn the benefits of drinking that water. Congrats on your 30lb loss so far! Happy healing! - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -120lbs.

Victoria- it's wonderful that you are able to drink more. I had a very hard time at first drinking alot at one time, but now I can drink so much is very little time. Still not gulping like I could pre-op, but almost. It's so important to get your fluids in, so being able to drink more faster is a blessing! Getting alot of water and other fluids is difficult at first, but eventually you should strive for atleast 64oz a day. Goodluck to you :)
