Question:
Payment by Primary AND Secondary Insurance Companies

I know some people have primary and secondary health insurance. Mine (BCBS) wants me to pay $4000 maximum out of pocket, which I absolutely cannot afford. If I added a second insurance policy from say Kaiser, would I be able to make claims with both companies and pay little or nothing?    — Stephanie B. (posted on December 12, 2002)

Kaiser does not usually pick up additional costs even as secondary....you need to go through them. If you have a choice, get a different secondary carrier, and make sure WLS is not an exclusion....good luck

You need to call Kaiser and ask what their COB rules are and how they determine cooridination. What they will and will not pay is based on those rules. I pay COB claims everyday, just not for Kaiser. Our rules are if the prime pays, we pay.......How much, is determined by the policy. Some will pay everything, some will have you meet the secondary deductible first, some will pay no more than they would have if you didnt have BX (meaning, if BX is 80/20 and Kaiser is 80/20...you get nothing). So, call Kaiser and ask. Also, if you are taking Kaiser out as an Individual plan, that will change the rules as well. For example.....Kaiser would be prime, and BX would be prime. :) Can I confuse you anymore? LOL
