Question:
Almost 5 weeks post op, what kinds of things should i be eating
I had my surgery Sept 17 and I am in my soft foods stage, I was wondering if anyone could kind of give me some idea of what their menu is like and what kinds of things I should be eating. I have a hard time getting six meals in and I don't think I am eating enough. Thanks — Shannon S. (posted on October 23, 2002)

Did your doctor give you a list of sofr foods? I ate Cream of Wheat,
Oatmeal, scrambled eggs, refried beans, canned tuna mixed with a little
Miracle Whip Light, canned salmon, salmon croquets, baked fish, mashed
potatoes, baked potato, cooked vegetables like spinach, carrots, peas;
fried fish, cottage cheese, Wendy's chili and yogurt. By six weeks out I
was eating grilled pork chops, shrimp, steak, and other meats. My surgeon
has us start with very soft things like cream of wheat and progressively
add things til at six weeks we are eating most foods the rest of the family
does. But, follow what your doctor says, now what someone on the board
says; there are many different aftercare plans.

I had a lot of what the previous post had. Refried beans, cottage cheese,
regular cheeses, eggs, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, and I also tried
different canned meats like tuna and deviled ham in the can and deli meats
that were very soft and thinly sliced. Every doc is different but I can
tell you I couldn't have dreamed of eating 6 meals a day then. I don't
even eat that many now. And I am almost 3 months out. I usually only eat 4
meals a day, sometimes 3 with a small snack. But my main concern has
always been getting my liquids in. I think that is most important. Then
protein, veggies, with carbs very last. Good luck.

Check out my profile I put in what foods I was eating at each stage. I
hope this helps you. Feel free to email me with any questions.
