Question:
How much does your body absorb?
I am 6 months out(open RNY)and down 106lbs. Start weight 265lbs. now 159lbs. I know your body only absorbs so much of the vitamins we take in..Does that go the same for carbohydrates, sugars and fats? I find it really hard to keep my carbohydrates down. Everything I see has like 20 to 45 grams. I have read on here that you should stay below 15 or less..How do you do that? I eat very little everyday maybe 800 calories or so. Also no sugar. But how can I cut my carbohydrates down? Thank you for any and all help anyone can give me. — Debbie S. (posted on October 5, 2002)

Deb, I don't know the answer about how much of the carbs we take in is
absorbed, but I wanted to tell you something my nutritionist told me (and
she works exclusively with WLS). She said we should strive for a balanced
diet, heavy in protein, but one that includes carbs, fats and sugar. Just
smaller amounts, obviously of the latter 3 items. She said that our bodies
need these to maintain good health. The interesting thing is that there
are different types of carbs and we should strive for the good carbs-beans,
grain breads, popcorn,- and stay away from the bad carbs like pasta, chips,
white bread. Its called complex carbs (good ones) and simple carbs (bad
ones). Truthfully, I don't watch my carb intake, just try to eat healthy
and smart.
