Question:
Does anyone know if the NEW EXCEDRIN Quick Tabs are OK?

I just noticed in the drug store that there are these new disolve in your mouth excedrin pills for headaches. Does anyone know if they would be OK for headaches post-op? I am going to have surgery on 9-26 and I get the worst headaches and Tylenol is a really bad joke. I was reading that these quick tabs have no asprin and being that they wont actually hit the pouch I am wondering if they would be OK to use? They contain whatever tylenol contains and a bit of caffine. I know that caffine (my surgeon said) could cause ulcers, but it wont hit the pouch, so I am rather hopful about these new quick tabs. Any info is greatly appreciated!!    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on September 13, 2002)

No. The problem with lots of NSAIDS and aspirin is stomach damage. THis isn't necessarily a result of the drug in contact with the stomach, but that it hurts your stomach by being in your bloodstream (systemic). Aspirin does ALSO upset some people's stomach, which is why they sell "coated" kinds, but the real damage is done systemically. That's why even if they came up with aspirin/aleve/celebrex as an injection or patch it could still cause damage to your tummy. Think about it - Vioxx, Voltarin, etc. are 1 pill per day, and they are working on 1/week. You'd think our tummy could handle that once in a while, right? But it can't - cause it is in your bloodstream.... Hope that makes sense.

Better to check with your physician. Caffeine can cause ulcers according to my surgeon and it inhibits the absorption of some of your vitamins.

These new tablets are made of Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and a small amount of caffiene, less caffiene than a cup of coffee. The caffiene is put in to increase the effectiveness of the pain reliever. It is added to many types of pain relievers for that purpose.
