Question:
Anyone out there tired of being sick most or all the time.

I'm 6 weeks and have lost so far 50lbs. I'm happy about the weight lost, but I feel sick all the time. I know I'm not eating like I should. Everything makes me sick. I have to forse myself to eat. I can't eat shakes protein bars, tuna, cottage cheese, I think because that is all I ate at the begining it has really turned me off food like that. Yogart seems to go down a little easier. Any suggestions please let me know. Thanks    — sarah C. (posted on May 28, 2002)

Your doing great on your weight loss but your right, you do have to force yourself to eat. Why don't you try some different foods if your sick of the ones you mentioned?? Right after surgery until about 10 weeks out, I had NO appetite and had to force myself to eat (ah, the good old days!!). I tried lots of different types of food and some days they were ok and on others they weren't. You've got to start trying to eat different types of food for the variety. This should cause your appetite to pick up. One of my favorites at 4 to 8 weeks was Wendy's chili. But I tried everything!!

I know how you feel, I am the same 6 weeks post-op today and have lost next to nothing compared to you 20 something pounds. I have been throwing up for the last 4 weeks straight. My eyes bleed when I throw up and the only thing I can keep down is shakes and crystal light ice tea and water. I have no energy what so ever and I am always tired. I just talk to my DR today and they have decided to open the esophagus a little bit so food will stay down. Being sick is the absolute worst. I hope you feel better

It took me three solid months before I felt normal again. It will pass, you will be able to tolerate different foods, and you will look back on these days as a faint memory. I promise!

There really is hope. I was the same way and it got a tiny bit better each week until finally at 6 months I went a whole month without vomiting and now at almost 10 months, I can eat anything in small amounts. So until then, this is what I found helped. One, everytime I got sick, I would go back to liquid or soft foods for at least 2 days and drink Camomile tea. A lot of the vomiting is actually due to spasm's, not the actual food itself and the tea and soft foods allow the spasms to stop. I also found a protein drink that was thin enough to keep down. It is EAS low carb single serving drinks (already to drink, not the powder mix). They sell them at GNC and most nutrition stores and they come in Vanilla, chocolate & strawberry. Some other ideas are: 1) ricotta cheese with a tiny bit of shredded cheddar and ragu warmed in the microwave. 2) refried beans with shredded cheese warmed in the microwave 3) cream of tomato soup (be careful, some dump but I did not) I swear that's all I ate for about 2 months and every few days I would try something solid and chew the heck out of it. Remember that meats need to be very tender and very juicy (cover with heated broth or gravy). Good luck.

Well, I for one more am right there with you. Very, very sick of feeling like crap! I'm also 6 weeks out (this seems to be pretty common here!) and have lost 35 lbs. My finger are crossed for all of us that it ends soon (like today)!!

IT WILL BE A YEAR FOR ME NEXT MONTH AND I STILL FEEL SICK AT SOMETIME DURING THE DAY. BUT IT IS GETTING BETTER. WITH ME IF I WANT TO GO TO A PARTY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT I DONT EAT ANYTHING THERE SO I KNOW I WILL NOT BE GETTING SICK AT ALL. I AM STILL HOPING THAT THIS IS JUST A STAGE THAT WILL BE ENDING SOON. GOOD LUCK
