Question:
Will I ever be able to take pills again, or will it always be liquids or chews?

Hi, my open RNY-surgery is one week from today. My surgeon prescribed
medication in capsules (prevacid) to be taken as soon as I'm released to go
home. My understanding is the outlet from the pouch to the jejenum is about
the size of a dime. After several weeks of healing time, you should be able
to take your normal size vitamins. Mine are like horse-size pills. I was
told after 6 weeks that I may resume my One Source multi vitamins. Hope
this helps a little. In Christ, Michelle Murray

My surgery was November 29, 2001. I injured my leg while in the hospital
and re-injured it again three days after I was released. When I re-injured
it, my surgeon put me on Celebrex capsules for 8 days. That was 8 or 9
days post-op and I had no trouble taking the capsules at all. I also has a
respiratory infection about a month after surgery and had no problems
taking Z-Pak. At six weeks post-op, I started taking multi-vitamins that
are in tablet form and I can take hydrocodone tablets with no problem. I
haven't had any liquid or chewable meds since I quit the chewable
vitamins.

I've had no problems taking any pills. I take a pre-natal vitamin every
other day, an iron pill every other day, a synthroid pill daily and 2
potassium pills a day. They all go down just fine with no problems.

Check with your surgeon. Mine required crushed pills until I reached 8
weeks post-op.

I often wondered the same things pre-op. When my surgeon sent me home from
the hospital he sent me home with Lortab. Have you seen these giant pills?
He said they would be fine, and they were. I have never had a problem
taking any pills after surgery.
