Question:
Will I continue to lose after my gallbladder surgery??
Iam going to be having gallbladder surgery shortly and I was wondering if my weight loss will stop or will it speed up again for a while. I have heard people gaining 10lbs from all the iv fluids. Will I have to start over with eating foods again? — Laura G. (posted on March 25, 2002)

I haven't had WLS yet, but for about 2 or 3 weeks after my gall bladder
surgery, I was NOT hungry. VERY unusual for me. In fact, the hospital
dietician came up to my room and asked what was wrong. Foods would sound
good, but I would fix something, take a bite or two and that was it. Wish
it had kept up for about a year longer :-) As far as any water weight, no
big deal. It will come back off pretty easily and isn't really a weight
gain.

Laura- You will gain some weight after your surgery. I just had mine out
3 weeks ago and I was exactly 1 year post-op the day they did it. I went
in at 116 and came out 124 (in less than 12 hours with a total gain of 8
pounds), but I was back down to 116 pounds in just 2 short days. It is
just IV fluids and you pee them all out. Good luck! Mel

My gallbladder surgery was LAP and I was'nt required to stay in the
hospital. However I also had rotator cuff surgery done at the same time so
I stayed one day. But I did'nt gain weight from it (or the IV fluids). And
unlike the other poster, I WAS (and AM) hungry. I have'nt lost hardly any
weight since month 6 so I'm interested in whether the removeal of the
gallbladder will start weight loss. Probally not, but one can hope. ;)
