Question:
Can I smoke a cigar every now and than?
I can live without all other vices in my life, but will I be able to smoke a cigar or my pipes ever again? I don't miss the Guiness Stout, But I sure miss my maduro churchill's! — Terry P. (posted on February 17, 2002)

I don't know of any reason related to WLS that you would not be able to
smoke a cigar. I don't see that it would affect your weight loss, or the
size of your stomach, etc.

I don't see why you couldn't?! I smoke cigarettes! Although, I think they
give me heartburn sometimes! (Wierd I know!) Best of Luck!

I would say on very rare occasions. Smoking cigarettes can increase the
chance of getting a blood clot. And if that's cigarettes, I can imagine a
cigar is the same. Especially since smoking 1 cigar is the equivalent to
smoking 10 cigarettes. You will be surprised at what kind of cravings you
will have post-op.

I guess as my Father died of lung cancer, and I am a severe Asthmatic, I
see this in a little different light than most, but this is my question to
you...Why would anyone go through all of the pain of WLS to get healthy,
then continue to smoke? I am NOT preaching to you, I am truly curious. Is
it because the cravings are too much? PLEASE do not mistake this message as
being sarcastic or hateful. I am just curious as I have seen tobacco
related questions on here before, and have wondered about this. =)

Being a mother of 4 kids, and having a somewhat stressful homelife on top
of that, I occasionally have a smoke here and there. Having one cigar will
not kill you nor affect your weight loss. Everyday, yes, it'll kill you,
lung cancer and such, but as for WLS, smoking has no affect on weight loss,
that I'm aware of.
