Question:
Do you need to stop taking birthcontrol before the surgery?
I am taking birthcontrol and know that you need to take it after the surgery due to increased risks of pregnancy. But I read on someone's profile that the Dr. had then quit taking the pill 1 month before the surgery because it causes blood clots. Do I need to quit taking it? — Daphne S. My doctor told me that I didn't have to stop taking them, but I did anyway
because I had seen that so many were told to stop taking them. I stopped 1
month preop and started them up again 1 month post op when I got my period
again. Either way you decide, I would check with your doctor. Good luck,

I agree with the previous poster. My doctor told me to stop taking them
atleast one month before surgery and I could resume taking them one month
after surgery. The reason was to help prevent blood clots. I also got
Heparin (sp) in the abdomen prior to surgery.

My doctor didn't make me quit taking my bc pill before my surgery. When I
was in the hospital, they crushed it up and put it in my tube each morning.
I was glad I didn't have to stop taking it so I could stay on schedule.
Good luck to you!

the day of the surgery.
