Question:
I am so thirsty all the time, help!
I am 8 days post op. and I am so thirsty. My Doctor is very firm about only 2 Ounces every 2 hours Maximum. That goes for food or water, this is for 3 weeks. I am soo thirsty, I could drink a river. Help!! — Gayla C. (posted on November 28, 2001)

Your doctor is insane! You should be drinking as much water as you can
take.

I agree with the previous post. Your doctor is insane! You will be
dehydrated in no time if you're not already. Drink some water as much as
you possibly can!

Are you sure the restriction applies to water, and not just to thick
liquids like Protein shakes? The water restriction is unhealthy! Call
your doctor back and ask if the restriction is really supposed to cover
water. If s/he says "Yes", ask how you're supposed to avoid
dehydration and a trip to the hospital ER! It's ridiculous and dangerous
to restrict water!

I, too, was thirsty immediately post-op. It seemed that no matter how
much, what, or how frequently I drank, I constantly had a dry mouth and
felt like I could swallow a river! That passed at about week four though,
and now I'm doing well. (7 wks. post-op) I would drink more than 2 ounces
every two hours though. Just make sure you don't gulp it.

Just sip water constantly, as long as your not in pain you will be fine.
Call you sureon for clarification, 2 oz limit isa not for water.

I imagine you must really be thirsty! There must be a miscommunication
here somewhere...you really need to concentrate on getting in 64 oz. of
water (minimum)every day. My surgeon was adament about this. It is
especially important early on when you are burning fat at such a high
rate...you need the water to flush it out. I remember that it was very
difficult for me to get all my water in at first. For some reason, it just
doesn't want to go down early on, and you will really need to work at
constantly sipping. I remember that it was much easier for me to drink tea
than plain water. Water was hard to swallow, seemed almost 'chunky' at
first...tea slipped down smoother. Strange huh? My doctor said to use tea
(decaffeinated), crystal light, whatever it took, to get the water in.

At that rate you'll easily get dehydrated. Your doc is wrong. Sip all day
and you'll be fine. I am one who hears what my doctor advises, then does
what I feel is right for me. I keep in mind that he's never had the
surgery and if what I'm doing is working, then I will keep doing it. But I
think your doc maybe meant food should be every couple hours? Good luck
and God Bless!
