hi,I'm 4 months post RNY & my profile is very similar to yours. I too am 52 & I weighed 205 before my surgery. I now weigh 158. I had a leak though & had to have 3 surgeries & was in & out of the hospital for over two months. I'm still very weak & have not been able to get back to work. Not to discourage you but if you dont have any co-morbidities then please do reconsider. 210 is not very heavy & even if you shed 20 pounds in a year it will be worth your while.

I am 5'1" and weighed 117. Had a bmi of 39. I am a little over 2 weeks out and down about 23 pounds since I started the liver reduction diet on January 1st. Down 19 pounds since the actual surgery. I am now at a stall and not sure why. I have a feeling I may not be eating enough. So that is a little frustrating, but like you said everyone is different.

I am 5'0 and weigh about 189. I am having surgery on Wednesday because being so short, I am supposed to weigh 110ish!!!!!! I haven't weighed that since 6th grade. I don't see any way I will be down to that kind of weight on my own, ever. We don't have as much weight to lose, but proportionately it is similar to other people with more to lose that are taller.

I had a higher bmi..but am 4'11 and weighed 238 at the beginning of my journey..I had surgery in June 08 and met goal in 9.5 months. I have maintained since. It was slow losing in the beginning...but then came off quickly.

Amanda: I am 1-month and a few days out from RNY. My initial BMI was 42.4 and now -32 lbs. my BMI on Thurs. the 28th (1-month post-up recheck) was calculated at 39.6. That's approximately only 3 pts. decreased, but none-the-less the number is decreasing and going in the right direction! My surgeon told me that with weighing less than 300 lbs. @ the time of surgery the average wt. loss should be between 20-30# a month. As you can see my loss was on the HIGH average (my ht. is 5'8"). I thought I was not losing fast enough, but to hear from my surgeon and team how well I am doing very much encouraged me to keep doing what I have been doing. In all due honesty, I have not seen any "stunning" changes to my body or shape and no one has come up to me with shocking comments about my weight loss, but when I think of giving the "average" wt. loss a bit more time (3 months x 30#/month = 90 lbs. total weight loss) I can hardly wait to see where I am by end of March/spring 2010. Of course with weight loss like that the BMI will truly follow and the numbers will drop as need be just as quickly. Good luck with your sx. I hope for you the same wonderful post-op experience that I have had to date.
