Question:
Why is it bad to have more then 8oz of water in an hour?
I am a little over two months out from an RNY and I was wondering why it was bad to drink over 8oz of water in an hour. Now that I have been able to drink it with out my stomach hurting (it was hard to get my water in at the beginning) I find that I can chug it without any problem. Is this bad? If so why? — trinity P. I hear that but don't know it to be true...I just drink when I am
thirsty...or hungry...sometimes I think I am hungry but water hits that
spot! It is possible to drink too much water...but it's rare! It's called
"water intoxication"... That can change your electrolye balance
and water down your sodium levels. Getting dehydrated is far more
common...Just drink when you are thirsty...and your urine is clear! I still
cannot and do not chug water...it will make my stomach spasm...But I can
sip it pretty fast and more than 8 ounces an hour!

I don't worry about not drinking more than 8 ounces of water at a time now.
I know that if I drink I can only drink probably a couple of ounces at a
time, but I also know when to stop - that full feeling in the stomach.
