Question:
Zinc And Horrible stomache pain
Is Zinc suppose to cause bad stomache pain? Is there acertain type we are suppose to be taking? I take Zinc 50 mg. I take it with calcium, magnesium. I do not take it everyday because it gives me a horrible ache in stomache, also nauseated. I had RNY on Sep 18 2007. I have been doing great. Except for the zinc. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks ...Cindy — nanacindy (posted on April 24, 2008)

I started taking the 50mg tablets of the zinc 2 weeks ago. It does my pouch
the same way. I have pain so bad that I have to lay down. Can't eat or
drink when I take it due to feeling so bad. I am 4 yrs and 2 mos post-op
RNY. I would also like to know from others whats going on or am I taking
the wrong mg in one tablet?

I have no idea how much or if we should take zinc post op but I got
immensely ill from taking zinc BEFORE surgery. So I can only imagine that
it wouldn't be any better on a restructured tummy.

I take Zinc now after surgery because I'm deficient. I take 100mg at one
time and have never had a problem with it. I use the generic Walgreens
brand. The only vitamin that gives me problems is B 50 so I take that 30
mins. after I eat.

I don't personally take zinc, but just read an article on it and nausea and
pain are common side effects. Perhaps a call to your surgeon or
nutritionist would be beneficial- they might have some suggestions.
Good luck,
