Question:
Has anyone made a mistake with portion size post-op? If so what do you do?

I was eating the puree at 1 1/2 cups. Wrong!!! I just found out from my nutritionist. What should I do?    — brendaleepooh (posted on April 24, 2008)

If you look at servings on containers they are anywhere from 1/4 to 1 cup per serving. Cut your portions down.

How did you get it down? CUt back on the serving size to 3-4 oz per meal. When you get to solid foods, the meat will slow you down fast, if you had a RNY. Best of success to you.

Yes, we have all made mistakes. I'm very surprised you were able to get that much down. I would recommend close label watching and always remember that your pouch should hold no more than about 4 oz. 1 1/2 cups is equal to 12 oz. I agree with the previous author that once you get to chunky food, you won't be able to get that much down to make that big a mistake anyway. Be careful and take care. Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC

You simply eat less. I don't mean to sound wierd, but just eat less. Drink more warm fluids, and eat less. Patricia P.

Your nutritionist should be able to give you some suggestions. I would ask her the portion size (probably 1/4 -1/2 cup at your point) and then measure it out. Make sure you are getting all your fluids and protein in as well. Stop drinking 15-30 minutes before meals and don't drink for at least 30 minutes after eating.

Ooops! This is what you do: 1. Find out how much you be eating 2. Eat that much, no more, no less 3. Move on Everyone is different, so I can't promise you, but I think that you will find you are not able to eat as much when you move on to regular foods. Best wishes.
