Question:
I had the lap band 3 years ago and thinking about revision to the RNY.
Has anyone else had this procedure done? — afrog777 (posted on March 18, 2007)

Hi,
Yes I had it done christmas week this past year, removed my lapband and
converted me to the rny at the same time. I lost approx. 30 lbs with the
band in 15 months and gained back 25 by the time I had the revision. I am
11 weeks post op and have lost 38 lbs, as of last week, and feel great. I
can eat meat again and so many more food options than I did with the band,
which just made me sick most of the time. It was a piece of cake, actually
less pain than the first time, but I think I knew what to expect and better
drugs this time. I did have both procedures done laproscopically also. I
have more energy and wish I had it done in the first place. Alot of people
will tell you, if it did not work with the band it will not work with the
rny, not true!!! Unless they had it done, they will not know what it is
like to be so constricted you cant eat anything but pasta or liquids, you
probably know this. I do not eat sugar now, I did before. Too much fat
makes me nauseas, so I stay away from that too. I say go for it, I am glad
I did. If you want to email me in private to talk, here is my email
address. Best of luck with your decision.

I haven't personally but my friend has. Her doc said revisions lose slower
and she has but she's very happy with the results. She is much more
accountable to herself, unlike with the band. Watches her sugar more
carefully than I do! (RNY 4/06) If you're comitted, you'll succeed.
Brightest blessings. ~Sarah in VA
