I am looking someone to talk to that has had surgery and could shed some light on it for me. All I hear are the bads things that can happen and I would like to talk to someone about their experience. Thank you and have a great day. Kelly — klock (posted on December 3, 2006)

I also happen to be the board host. Volunteer mod, Welcome and ask away! My
long winded profile tells my story. WLS WAS THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE!

kelly,
feel free to email me. I have both good and bad issues. I've had 2
surgeries... one bad and just had a great revision 4 weeks ago. I can
answer a lot and really, just be there. One big thing, even with the bad,
I'd not change a thing.
my email is [email protected]

I am only 24 days post op but I had a great experience so far. My surgeon
was wonderful and after about 2-3 days home, I didn't even feel like I had
surgery. There are bad things that happen but it's very rare. The most
important thing is to have a good doctor and a good outlook and be in good
physical and mental condition. You need to follow the doctor's orders to
the letter. My doctor required a lot of pre-op tests and I was glad he
did.

I am 12 yrs post up, my husband is 11. We surely would not be alive today
had we not made this decision then. It's hard to say exactly WHICH co-morb
would've gotten us. If you email me privately, I'll shoot you my phone
number and we could talk.

Hi Kelly, I am just starting to look into weight loss surgery. So though I
can't answer a lot of questions at the moment, maybe we can learn together
and try to support one another?

i'm starting my prep for GBS. my first appt is thursday, and although i
haven't had it yet i know multiple people that have, only one person had a
serious complication, one out of 8 isn't bad. when you are thinking about a
serious surgery no matter what it is, you will always hear all the bad and
the majority of the time it's from people that think they know everything.
do lots of research and this web site will help you more than anything.
good luck with your decision. holly

The obese suffer greater rates of cancer deaths, greater rates of heart
disease and diabetes, plus a host of other medical problems that can affect
quality of life (things like arthritis and peripheral vascular disease).
Bariatric surgery is far less risky than the risks associated with
remaining obese. Plus, the risks of surgery are minimized by choosing an
experienced surgeon.
Having talked to my parents after my surgery, I was amazed at the fear my
mother had-- she understood the dangers of my remaining overweight, but
just felt that the risks of surgery were a much more immediate risk that
caused her greater concern. Of course, I was truly blessed that she was
very encouraging when she realized that I was committed to having gastric
bypass and she has been a constant source of encouragement and inspiration
since then. With luck, your mother will have a similar conversion.

I had my lap RNY Feb., 2006. I have lost 98 lbs so far. Here is a posting
I made in May. It has been an incredible journey and I have no regrets. I
had hit rock bottom before deciding to go ahead and have the surgery.
Post Date: 5/2/06 5:11 am
Today I am 10 weeks post op. I feel incredible! My diabetes is reversed and
I have been taken off blood pressure medicine! The GERD is gone. Yes, my
hair is thinning...but it always does when I have had surgery. It is a side
effect of annesthesia. It will come back. My hair is baby fine and thin to
begin with. When I think back to six months ago, before WLS, ...my life
felt it could end. I was in a bad place with my health. Everything was
overwhelming. I was a prisoner in my own painful body. Now, its like I have
been given a second chance at life. Everyday feels like a 'wow moment'. I
am grateful to God and the skills of todays medical field. I feel younger
again. Life is truly good! Having surgery was a very scarey decision.
Then I realized fear could kill me. Each person has to evaluate their
situation and decide. God brought you to it, he will bring you thru it. Do
your research. Good luck. :)

I think that is a normal feeling we all have. I know with myself it took me
a year or more to finally decide this was the right thing for me and alot
of praying to God for the answer.
I was then given the answer that I needed and definatly would do it all
over again. The risks of being unhealthy are far greater then the risks for
surgery. The thing is I laid it in Gods hands and he knows best. He was in
control in the operating room and He know how my life will turn out and the
obstacles I must face. I am so very greatful

I "wish" I had had my surgery done at your age! Instead, I
suffered with obesity for another thirty years Kelly!!! I could have had
such a different life style...I did have a good life and love and marriage
and two beautiful daughters, but...carrying this extra person with me all
that time definitely did keep me from some things!!!
I had my surgery done last July without complications; was home and feeling
fine, NO pain, the next morning! I had it done laproscopically though...I
followed what my surgeon told me to the tee before and after surgery. Now I
can tolerate most foods and I'm hungry more often, so I do have to resist
temptation again, but, when you "see" and "feel" the
difference, it IS easier to say NO!!! :O) Good luck! I'd be happy to answer
any questions you may have directly at: [email protected]

I had the surgery 3 months ago. It was the best thing ever I have never
regreted the decision and i have lost 50 pounds so far. It is a great tool
if you use it correctly sometimes it goes slow sometimes it does'nt but it
is worth the effort. I am thankful everyday that i wake up now I still have
some weight to lose but i already enjoy what benefits I have had so far.
Feel free to email me with any questions.

Hi Kelly,
I am 27 yrs old and 1 yr out from a lap RNY. I have lost 172lbs in 1yr,
approx. half of my body weight. My only regret is that I didn't do this
years ago. I have free nationwide calling if you want to send me your
number and a time I'll give you a call. (Eastern Standard Time)
