Hi, I don't know if this will help you but here is my story. I had my lap rny on 6-14-06 started at 295 and now 257. I lost about 35lb from June to begining of August and then for 6 weeks nothing today I finaly lost one pound. I did lost a lot of inches. I finaly stoped obsessing I figured with time it should go down and if not if this is all I am going to loose it's still better then where I was 3 month ago. As far as what I can eat is here. at 7am I drink 16 oz of deluted grape juice and 46gr. of protein it takes me about an hour to get the whole thing down. At 10 am my breakfast and I eat about 1 and half of scrubled egg with ham, cheeze and peppers. at 12 or 12:30 I eat lunch one piece of flounder or any meat that is available in cafetereia by the way by 12 I also take 2 12oz glasses of water, If there is no meat in cafeteria I can eazily eat small bowl of macarony and hamburger helper, if it' s not available I eat the whole humberger without bread. Sometime I would eat a small salad I call it Olga's special a few spinach leafs with cottage cheeze and olives. then I drink one more 12 oz glass of water at 3 I have my snack, a few pieaces of provilone or swiss cheez or yougurt or coffe with pieace of crasson. At 6 I eat protein bar and go to gym after gym if I am hungry I drink miso soup or chicken noodle soup. I eat nuts sometimes for snacking. Everyone in my family tells me I eat to much but i can care less. At this point I am just happy i am healthy and some 36lb and many inches lighter. I hope this helps. God Bless

food for thought... You have to eat to lose... robbing your body of nutrition will cause you to store FAT! Eat to live, lose the thought of living to eat. Surgery is a "tool" Use the tool do not abuse the tool! make sure to check out the stories in oh magazine! Mine too... Celeste Momin Shoot for the moon, you will land among the stars!

As much as I wish it wasn't so, I never reached my goal and I've heard from plenty of others. Obesity is poorly understood or I would weigh 115 lbs. We just have to accept that.

Yes it is true we do lose slower. I had lap rny on May 18,2006 and I also started at 237 and now I am at 173. I think losing 50-60lbs in 4 to 5 months is damn good. However, I do drink alot of water and "try" to go to the gym at least 3 times a week and do about 45 minutes on the treadmill. I am now losing about 8-10lbs a month which I think is still good. As far as how much I can eat, it really depends on what it is but say something like chicken nuggets I can usually eat about 4 and I am full but that is only just eating nuggets and nothing else. I can basically eat anything I want but try to stay away from carbs and sweets. Hope this helps and God bless you on your journey.

Tis surgery isn't a diet, it is a lifestyle change. Think of it as the time giving you to change they way you eat. Slow is better, maybe we won't have to have our gallbladder's out anytime soon. Plus this journey isn't over until about 18 mo to 2 years and even then you can still lose.

I started out at 237 on my surgery date of 7/29/05, so I am out 14 months. The lowest I got to was 173, I was so sick after surgery, I had horrible nausea so bad that i missed 9 weeks of work, etc. Most of my nausea stopped around my 1 year mark and I only have it occasionaly now, but when I was so sick, I was only getting about 200 calories a day. As soon as they got me on enough medicines that i was able to eat a little more, I put back on weight, back up to 183, my doctor said that was weight i was not supose to lose, body fluids, etc, it was from being dehydrated and malnourised. Well, I am still at 183 and have been since my 6th month, i have not lost 1 single pound in 8 months and don't expect I ever will. So that is only a 54 lb weight loss for my surgery. I suspect because of all my post op sickness, I may have a really messed up metabolism. But, I would say you are way too early out to make any real asumptions. Is it possible, yeah, I'm living proof, that 50-60 lbs is all you can lose, however I think my problems contributed to my lack of weight loss. I stil do not get over 1000 calories a day now and still do not lose any. Good luck, I don't think you are done yet! Oh and as far as how much you can eat..well, as an example that most can comprehend, i can eat the meat off of a child's size hamburger and about 1/2 the fries, no drink. I do tolerate some sugar more now than I did in the beginning, but try to stay away from it since I tend to hang on to every calorie I eat.

I, too, was a lightweight. My surgery was 4-07-06, and I have lost 81 pounds to date. I went from 247 to 166, but the weight loss has been slow for the past month or so... I am just glad to keep losing, and find that the gym really helps take the weight off! Good luck, and keep excercising!

54 pounds is a lot in just four months! You are doing well! I only lost five pounds or less per month. Just keep going.

Forgot to say that at four months out, i could barely eat anything. I still cannot eat chicken or eggs and sometimes have trouble with other things. I have a hard time getting all my liquids in. I am 20 months out.l
