When I was in the pureed food stage I just blended what I made for my family. Just add some water or chicken/vegetable stock.

My doc has me on soft foods from 1 week out to 6 weeks out. I am at 3 1/2 week out now. Here are a few ideas. My husband and I discovered Newman's Light honey/mustard dressing, which I mix lightly with tuna. I also use it on my chickpeas(garbanzo beans). Sometimes I use a little low-fat mayo with the tuna instead. I like putting a little canned pear or peach(no sugar added, canned in its own juice, and use only the fruit, not the syrup) right in with my cottage cheese, but I have no trouble eating my 6-8 Tablespoons of food, so I know I'll eat all my protein. You do have to see how you do with that-protein is the most important. Refried beans with a little low or no fat cheese melted on top is delish! I usually use fresh, ripe, soft fruit. Had fresh strawberries yesterday, with splenda sprinkled on. Fresh watermelon, or ripe pear or apple, peeled. Soft veggies-try well-cooked sweet potatoes with a little Butter Buds, and a little Splenda brown sugar....mmm. When you don't eat much, it doesn't take much to make you happy!

I made a fabulous dish this morning and had for lunch (made quite alot). 1 can baby shrimp 1/2 c. cottage cheese (fat free) 2 t. lite mayo 2 oz. lite cream cheese 2 T. spicy mustard 2 T. horseradish (I left this out - didn't have any) 1 t. garlic powder Blended cottage cheese and cream cheese in food processor or blender. Added the rest by hand. Then you can heat for few minutes and let cool. It's like a hot shrimp dip. Fabulous! Denise

When I was doing blended foods I just did what ever my family was eating and blended it with some type of broth. I also found that beans and chilil were great. They are soft and full of protein.

I mix a can of chicken and fat free cream cheese and low fat mayo or a small amount of low fat yogurt, in the processor with about a 1/4 tsp of onion powder . It was a low fat dip recipe that I used to make with regular cream cheese and sour cream instead of the yogurt prior to WLS. Now that I'm 4mos post op I like to eat it with low fat crackers and it's still a favorite. I now just mix the ingredients with a fork instead of in the processor. I suggest adding the cream cheese in small amounts until you get it to the consistancy you can tolerate. Also a soft favorite of mine is the cambell's Select soups in the gold box. The butternut squash soup is real tasty and the roasted red pepper & tomato is nice for a change of pace

The best puree food is baby food first stages....lol I used beechnut for about two months post-op...irecommend this to all my friends that are going to have the surgery. I didn't eat the dinners because the gave me heartburn like crazy....however, the fruits and desserts are delicious...enjoy!!!

You will probably not be on soft pureed foods for long. You will be amazed how many foods you can chew really well and do fine with. This will also let your brain catch up with your stomach so you do not eat too much. Tried oatmeal? Please do not forget the protein shakes or drinks. If you like milkshakes or starbucks drinks, as well as iced tea or lemonade, there are drinks out there for you. You can mix sugar-free pudding with the shakes to make them thicker if you like. To try some, go to vitalady.com or call the company that makes Synthrax Nectar ( I have their number on my items at home. Look them up on the internet.) Vitalady will send inexpensive samples and the nectar people will send you samples for FREE - just look up their toll free # and call and tell them you are a new bariatric patient and want to know what you like. It is not good to buy 2 or 5 pound jugs of stuff and end up not liking it! In the meantime, Atkins Advantage shakes are good to grab and go. Feel free to write me individually for more ideas!
