Question:
curious about juice???
Hi, i'm 7 days out of my RNY surgery and really confused on what type of juice i can have. I know it has to be 100% and diluted, but it seems all these juices have mega sugar. Is there such thing as a sugar free real juice. I'm dying to mix my protein with something else as i'm having a hard time stomaching it. Please help!!! Karrie — KarrieMcD (posted on June 3, 2009)

Even juice with no sugar added, you will find the sugar content high...Once
you take the fiber /pulp from the fruit, you will see there is very little
juice...It takes several pieces of fruit to make a glass of juice! Normally
we would not eat 3-4 apples in one sitting...but that's what it takes to
make a glass! So...dilute a few ounces of juice in water and you will have
cut much of the sugar....As for protein...it tastes much better to me in
coffee or tea...Especially tea with chai spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove
etc) It also taste amazing in Almond Milk which has no carbs or sugar and
only 40 calories for 8 ounces! It's loaded with Vit E but also has
significant amounts of Vit A, Calcium, Iron, Vit D, Phosphorous and
Magnesium! Even protein powder doesn't ruin the taste!

The way it was explained to me was that we needed juice that is 100% real
fruit juice. While the sugar content is high, it's a natural sugar and
therefore ok for us RNY'ers. My NUT suggested using Juicy Juice. I never
drank much of it, but occasionally it really helped with the ketosis taste
in my mouth.

i was advised not to drink anything except for water, diet snapple and
crystal light. my nutritionist said juice is just as bad for you as soda
because of all the sugar in it (and so did two of the surgeons).

My surgeon and nut said to drink real juice but dilute it 50/50 with water.
The natural sugars in fruit, while still high, are better than refined
sugars in sweetened juices.

Hi Karrie - my surgeons only recommended no sugar added cranberry juice
blends ( cran-graps, cran-pomegranate, etc - the reg is too acidic), I've
also heard that Juicy Juice was good. I found that even 50/50 was way too
seet for me, so I simply add a splash of the jiuce to water ( like 1/3
MAX), but it does give the water a taste.
If you are having a hard time with the milky protein shakes, you might want
to try the fruit punch bulets (avail at Wal-Mart) or the new Isopure ZERO
protein fruit drinks - I dont' like the taste, but then again, I like the
milky proteins. A lot of people swear by them.
I've also heard about the Nectar proteins that are fruity, and I will be
purchasing the Roadside LEmonade and the Lemon Tea in a wek or so once I go
through more of what I have here - I heard they are really good.
