Question:
10 days post-op and can eat anything... I'm worried...
Hello all. I'm 10 days post op. Had a tough surgery with a few complications. Wasn't hungry for a few days but am starting to want to eat now. I have not got sick, or even felt sick once. Everything I eat goes down fine and haven't felt that "full" feeling I was hoping for. I'm so worried that because of this I won't be successfull. I know I'm probably eating too much now and just wonder if anyone else had similar experience? — princess111 (posted on March 6, 2009)

I reviewed your home page to try and determine what kind of surgery you had
without success. If you had LapBand- it will take a few fills to get some
good restriction under your belt- the only restriction you have is the
little bit of swelling from the surgery. What you're experiencing is
common. Stay on track and follow doctor's orders until then and you'll do
fine. If you had RNY, you shouldn't be eating much at all 10 days post op,
even if you can. We all want immediate results and gratification as we
have been suffering with the disease of obesity for so long, but it doesn't
happen that way. Be patient and try to think of the long term results-
slow and steady wins the race. Congratulations on your surgery and welcome
to the loser's bench.

Hi ..I agree..couldn't tell which surgery you had..I would assume lapband
due to the fact that you can eat anything. Post RNY you would be on a
liquid only diet for a week. And then no one would eat normal food because
that could cause the newly made stomach to possible rupture. Be patient,
talk with your center about diet and what to expect this early on and Good
luck! Hugs, kIm

I am three weeks post op (lap band) and I too at 10 days knew I had no
restriction. I knew I could eat anything, but kept to my post op diet.
According to my Doc the area around my band needed healing so don't over
due. I was still hungry after my 1/2 cup of protein, so I would eat 1/2
green beans (canned). I would just eat 1/2 cup servings of beans until I
felt satisfied. I am getting my first fill on the 26th, but do not have
pipe dreams that will be enough. Good luck...K

No matter what surgery you had, "hoping for" that full feeling,
is NOT what you should be looking for after surgery. That's an old feeling
that needs to stop long term WLS. You need to eat enough so you aren't
hungry and that is ALL! It takes a while to get used to it, but you really
need to learn that feeling full is one of the ways people over eat
themselves into MO...After surgery eating til satiated is what you NEED for
long term success!
