Question:
Can you recommend a dr. who accepts TriWest/Tricare in the Roseville, CA area?
Yuba City or Marysville would be even better, but I want one that comes highly recommended. Also one that will work with Triwest/Tricare. There seems to be only 1 doctor (Dr. Waldrep) and he accepted Tricare years ago. Can't seem to locate any drs. here on OH. I am already approved to see a dr by Triwest and my dr. but have yet to come across a dr. who accepts it and my referral time is running out. So any information would be greatly appreciated!!Thanks, Veronica — avgclark (posted on March 1, 2009)

Hello Veronica,
I do not know if this information will be of use to you or not, but I
wanted to tell you another option. David Grant Medical Center at Travis AFB
has two doctors who perform bariatric surgery. I had laparoscopic RNY on
1.26.09 there, and my doctor was Dr. Mark Scherrer. Sorry but I do not know
the other doctor's name. These are not the only types of surgeries these
doctors are called upon to perform so the wait can be long. I contacted
them last January and waited until April of 08 for the information meeting.
I had all of the required tests within the next 5 or 6 weeks. Then I had to
wait until December to be contacted with a surgery date. Although waiting
all of that time was quite irritating, I did so because the surgery was
"free". I only had to pay $45.00 for all of the tests, dr.
visits, surgery, 4 days of hospitalization, etc. I should mention that they
have a cut-off age of 60. I was 60 when I signed up, and Dr. Scherrer
promised to do the surgery even if I turned 61 in the meantime. I know
there was also a dr. in Sacramento who accepted TriWest at the time. I
believe his name was Khan or something very similar.
Best of luck to you. You can contact me on OH at Joyceisready.

If neither of those doctors listed by the other answer to your question is
available to you, call TriWest. I also have Triwest, but am living in
Utah. My surgery is tomorrow. When I got the original referral for a
surgical consult they referred me to a doctor in my local area that doesn't
even do bariatric surgeries. After searching for surgeons on the TriWest
web site and not finding any in my area that do bariatrics, I called
Triwest, the representative I spoke with was very kind and took some time
to find a surgeon in Salt Lake (only 45 minutes away). Come to find out my
surgeon is rather renown in his field. So give TriWest a call....

You should be able to get a listing for surgeons in your area from American
Society for Bariatric Physicians
303-770-2526 or asbs.org good luck...
