Question:
Can my Drs.' recommendation help to persuade my insurance provider?
Last year my Gastro Dr. said I must lose weight. I have lost and gained 20lbs. since that time, even though I have battled with weight loss my entire life. Premera said NO on the phone When I called and asked about coverage. Can my Dr.'s recommendation make any difference in their decision making? Do you know? Have you heard of this being a determinate factor? — rainiblu (posted on July 27, 2006)

I was denied by my insurance the first time around. My primary physician
wrote a letter on my behalf explaining why I needed the gastric bypass
surgery. When my insurance company recieved the letter I was approved
immediately. Good luck! I hope all goes well.

Get a copy of your insurance company's clinical guidelines for the surgery,
either by going online or calling your company. thqt way, you can see
exactly what they require.
