I am not sure what your question is. I have hypothyroid and I don't expect
the surgery to change how my thyroid functions. I take synthroid or
levothyroxine and I don't think my dosage will change after surgery.

IT depends on if you are asking about hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
Its easy to get a low thyroid to come up with medication, it just takes a
month or two to get the right dose. Hyperthyroidism, where the thyroid is
too high, is more difficult, some meds. dont work and you have to get a
radiation treatment done to lower it, then its hypothyroid and can be
helped with meds. properly. I had hyper. a year before surgery, then it
was hypo. and with medication, my levels were normal by the time i had
surgery. But in short, they wont do surgery if your thyroid is off because
it effects your recovery and all.

Im not sure what you are saying, but you do need to have your thyroid
functions checked regularly. The amount of medication may have to be
decreased.

I too am confused by your quesion. Hypo is underactive and would need to
'come up'. Hyper is over active and would need to 'come down'. Many
people are confused by the two. 4 years after surgery I have developed
HypERthyroid...not fun, but am trying to regulate it. Bummer too, it's
making it difficult to maintain my weight. :(
