I'm having my WLS in 2.5 weeks and I still get scared at times but I'm also very excited about it. Everyone tells me these are normal feelings....so I just breathe my way through the anxiety and keep telling myself that life is gonna be so much better after WLS!! I have to continually stop playing the "What If" game with myself too! Remember to breathe and think of the positive things that are to come! Cheers, Tee

Hi. I had surgery on 12/10/09 so am 4 months post op. I had also heard all the horror stories, from daily vomiting to death. Despite the stories I knew I needed to do this to try to save my life. So far it was the correct decision, I'm down 70 lbs and have not had any problems at all. No vomiting, no dumping, no pain. Able to eat anything but I also make the proper choices for the new me. Remember it's a tool not a miracle. Just make sure your surgeon has a good reputation and a good track record. And do everything the doctor says to have a great recovery. Please feel free to chat with me online if you need a little support. Best of luck in your new life choice.

I'm sure you have heard the horror stories of people with short life spans because of weight issues or people who deal with the effects of diabetes. These stories are more prevelent than the horror stories of bariatric surgery. Good luck to you - you will be fine.

I am having RNY on Monday, 4/26. Today I am excited and ready tomorrow I may feel otherwise. I am doing this to be healthier. And as other have posted, there are alot of people that will have shorter lives because of their weight. You have a chance now to improve your health and live longer. Trust your surgeon and his staff and you will be fine.

I understand your concerns. I think everyone experiences the same thing...I know I did and I had never had any type of surgery before! I had my surgery 9 weeks ago and I have never felt better. I have lost 55 lbs and I have never experienced dumping or throwing up. I healed quickly and my new lifestyle of eating is so easy to live with that for the first time in my life I don't wake up in the mornings and worry about food. Find the strength to face this fear and you will never regret it. Don't focus on the possiblity of your life ending, focus on your life beginning anew. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Hi Sweetie.... short and to the point advice. "Follow exactly what you are supposed to do to the "TEE"... ask questions.....Pray. I know you are scared, but the alternative is much worse than this surgery. From a post op patient of 2 years. Hugs and best of luck.... you'll be just fine ! : ) Michele
