Question:
Ideas for measuring foods post-op

Hello everyone, I just got a date for surgery, and am looking for ideas on what you used to measure your liquids/foods after surgery? I have heard a few ideas, but would really like to know what you all used? Thank you!    — eyeflirt4fun (posted on November 12, 2009)

Hi there.... I had a GREAT idea!! I was limited to one ounce of volume at a time for a few weeks, so I went to the liquor store and bought several packages of "jello shooter" cups. They hold exactly one ounce, and are plastic, so you can just throw them away after use. The day before surgery, I spent a few hours making trays of sugarfree jell-o gelatin and pudding, so that I wouldn't have to do it when I got home. I put them in a big sealed tupperware container in the fridge, and they stayed fresh and tasty. When I began to eat soft foods like cottage cheese, refried beans, smooth yogurt and EggBeaters, I used the shooter cups to measure out my "ounces" of those, too. I used them for probably a couple of months. Then, I found a package of 2 ounce cups somewhere, and used those for the next stage. If you can't find a package of two ounce cups, you can buy the Tupperware Midgets - they hold two ounces. Then, I progressed to using a quarter cup measuring cup, and now a half cup. But, I also use a kitchen scale that weighs things in both ounces and grams, and I log everything I put in my mouth at SparkPeople.com. There are other sites where you can log stuff, but SparkPeople is, IMHO, the absolute best. You can really get addicted to it.

Thank you so much! I was thinking maybe baby bottles would be good also if I'm on the go, but for my 1 oz stage I was needing ideas for sure, and I will check out the tupperware midgets!
