Question:
So confused on foods and protien drinks
I am almost 5 months post op (Lap RNY) and I have lost 95 lbs. That I am happy about. But these past few weeks, I feel like I am not losing enough. I started drinking protien shake in the morning hoping to boost my weight loss. I heard that will help if you get more protien, but now I am reading that it will build mass and that the protien may actually be hindering the weight loss. I eat very healthy although there are things I will have that are considered "regular" such as cheese and mayo. I eat these things in very moderate amounts because i think all things are ok in moderation. What should I be doing to boost my loss again? I have 7 more months to go before my year mark and want to lose another 70lbs. Will I make my goal? — michelle7507 (posted on May 31, 2009)

I don't know about the lap band except you do need the protein! Yes Protein
takes off the fat and what is gained is muscle. I drink Protein Bullets
they are fantastic I do 1/2 one of the morning and the other 1/2 during the
evening and that provides 42 grams of whey protein which is the best
protein. Have you changed over from red meats to turkey meats Honey Suckle
White is at Walmart and they have terrific turkey meats I recommend the
turkey sausage links. I bought a book called surgical weight loss for
dummies off amazon.com and it is worth buying and reading be sure to count
your sugars. I am 3months and 2 weeks past my bypass and I have lost 93
pounds and I'm praying by my 6 months mark I can have another 70 to 80
pounds off. If I can help in anyway please let me know. GET YOUR PROTEIN
IN!! That is the key to the surgery

I have heard good things about the shakes too, but are you exercising and
weight trainning? I just had my GB surgery this past Friday, but I have
done a lot of research on good ways to keep losing. Weight lifting
increases your weight loss and also helps with the lose skin, palates I
have her nothing but GREAT things! Star Jones only did palates and it did
wonders for her. Cardio is also recommended, and walking is considered
cardio. Mix up the exercise. But you can always call the dietitian and
see what they think. They can check out your meal plan and see if there is
something you should or should not be doing. Good luck!

I am 2 years out from RNY surgery and whatever you do, get that protein
in!!! Nothing is as important as that. Yes, muscle weighs more than fat,
but so what? Be concerned about your HEALTH. Also, I have found that at
times it's like my body needs to "catch up". It may be a few
weeks (no more than 4), but sometimes you begin to lose inches again
instead of weight and then the weight starts coming off again. I've lost a
total of 160 lbs, so good luck!!
