You want to get whey protein isolate...I ordered some from www.allthewhey.com. If you put in the code: Matt05 you will get a 5% discount. Many people like isopure but it's expensive. You can get samples and see which ones you like.

If you have a GNC close to you then you can purchase protein powders from them. Some are only 20-25 gm of protein. Unjury is 20g of whey portein. I personally like EAS Advant Edge carb control premixed protein drink and it is a combo of whey and soy protein and 15g of protein. My all out favorite is Met-Rx protein powder. For the total packet it is 38g of whey protein but I only make 1/2 of the package which brings it down to 19g. You are just going to have to shop around to find what you like best. There is also the tubes of protein by Profect, advertised on this site. I see their adds a lot on the main message forum. You may not be able to just keep yourself at 15-20 g of protein for a supplement, you may just may need to purchase a product with a little bit more. It is not going to hurt you, just do not go all out and buy the 40g ones, they are a waste of product because you cannot absorb that much. You may not be able to tolerate some of the smells or tastes of them either, so keep an open mind. The reason I say GNC is because you can return unused portions to them if you do not like the product.

The more protein the better!!!!! My nutrisionist with Kaiser said the best are for every 15 grams of protein no more than 5 grams of carbs and 3 grams of fat. I use Isopure from GNC 50 gr of protein in 12oz o gr of carbs and 1 gr fat.

I use a product called "Any Whey", it is 19g/scoop. Tasteless, but tends to thicken stuff up, but I still use it... It was about $20 for the cannister.

It's easy....most protein drinks give you the protein grams per scoop; so, if it's 40, just use 1/2! Good luck! Patricia

Hi Tara. It really does not matter whether the container says 40 grams, or 50, or whatever. The protein powder that I use has a scoop that comes with it that. It takes two of those scoops per day to give me 50 grams of protein. So, half of that is about 25 grams. Still too much for you? Well, fill the scoop to about 3/4 full and there are your 15-20 grams. I would recommend that you get a second opinion about the amount of protein you need per day. Everything I've heard (from my doctors) and read (online, books, etc.) specifies no less than FIFTY (50) grams of protein per day. Maybe your nutritionist is assuming that you will be getting the extra 30 grams or so via the regular food that you eat. Also, my surgeon has stated to me that getting MORE than 50 grams of protein per day is NOT HARMFUL. The protein supplement you use should be low in fat and low in carbohydrates. I use "Perfect(R) Zero Carb Isopure" made by Nature's Best, Inc.. This product has 0 grams of fat as well as 0 grams of carbohydrates (as its name suggests). Two scoops is 62 grams of which 50 grams is 100% ion exchange whey protein isolate. I get it at my local Vitamin World store. I like the "Creamy Vanilla" flavor but it comes in a chocolate flavored version as well. Remember, the problems come when you do not ingest enough protein, now when you take in too much (within reason of course).

Fact first - our bodies will only absorb at the most 30 grams of protein at a time in a two hour time period. The rest gets dumped to waste. Plus wasted extra calories. Do you have a SAM'S Club near you. The sell a Whey pritein powder which gives you 22 grams with water, more of course when mixed with milk but also then more calories. It's also priced great at $18.99 for a 5 Pound tub of it. They have Chocolate & Vanilla. The vanilla can be mixed with other stuff such as the Walmart flavors of their brand of Crystal Light.

If you're looking at whey proteins, in essence, 1/3 to 1/2 cup of powder will give you 30g of protein. 30g being the optimal amount for one serving. The actual SCOOPER is different from brand to brand. There are 2 sizes shown on the nutrition label. The top one is the size of the SCOOPER. The protein content of that scooper is down lower in the lable. For example, my favorite protein scooper is 20g, which yields 16g protein. 2 of those gives me a near perfect 32g of protein, 0g sugar when made in 6-8 oz of water. Personally, I do 6 of those per day, but I'm not recommending that amount to you. I have a more radical form of RNY than most and am required to get at least 120g. The additional I use to hold my weight down so I don't eat silly things. It's an appetite controller for me. But if you measured all the powders mentioned here that are for weight loss (some mentioned are weight gainers), the amonts of actual POWDER would be very close to reach 30g. And every brand has a different sized scooper.

Go to bariatriceating.com. they have samples you can buy. But there is nothing wrong with 40 grams or protein either. There are no studies that prove that you can't absorb 40 grams at one time. But I do less in the powder mixes per drink so that I can tolerate the protein, I do about 1/2 a scoop per 16 oz of water.

You may have misunderstood. It needs to be at least 15-20 grams. Believe me 40 is great- our problem is not getting enough. From first hand experience, I wasn't getting enough and started loosing my hair. Meat was and still is a problem for me to eat. I love Isopure drinks from GNC- they give you a break from vanilla, chocolate and those types of drinks to fruit flavors. Like a juice almost that I like to mix with other fruity drinks. I thrive on variety. I also use unflavored whey protein to add to soups, and other creamy dishes to get my protien without having to always have sweet things.

Just cut the portion in half, don't worry about which one you get as long as you can tolerate the taste. I think if you cut cut the portion in half and drink what you need you will be fine.
