Question:
How long before I can go back to work?

since I'm self-pay I have to use vacation time for the surgery. Is it possible for me to be back at work in 7-10 days? I'm primarily at a desk but there is some walking. Nothing very physical.    — Jennifer V. (posted on April 13, 2006)

i think it depends on the person. I could probably handled it 10 days out if my job wasn't physical. i really depends on your doctor though and what you decide between you. Good luck.

I returned on day 14, but probably could have returned a couple of days earlier. I was exhausted for a while, but it is manageable. You may be able to return around 10 days, but I think 7 would be took soon due to discomfort and incisions. Shelly

It really depends on the type of surgery. Open vs. laporoscopic (ignore my spelling blunders) I had lap rny and was out shopping at the end of day 7. I had little pain and could have gone back to work then. I had 3 weeks sick leave so I took it and enjoyed the time off to shop for new clothes!!!

Do your work offer Paid Medical Leave? I will be having the surgery in June, and I am able to have up to 6 weeks off paid, due to the surgery. So that way I don't have to use any vacation time. Good Luck!

I had my surgery last Thursday and am going back to work next Thursday...I am hoping to be up for full duty. I am a cashier and on my feet for 8 hours. I feel pretty good this week and imagining to feel even better next.

I had my surgery, Lap rny, on Wednesday and I went back to work on Monday. I was not at a full day, but each day I was able to last longer. By the following Monday I was back to work full time. I should have taken a week off, but I thought I could go back earlier. I am primarily at my desk also. Good luck!!!

I am back to work today on post-op day 11. I feel good. I have a desk job so I would think you might like to take two weeks just to make sure you had your strength back.

I had open RNY and was back to work in two weeks. I have a desk job, so it was more managable. Very tired at the end of the day, but tolerable.
