I can't say if milk will give you enough protein because I do not know how much protein your surgeon recommended for you or how much milk you are drinking. However, I also have those days when I can't face the idea of eating. When this happens I drink milk, but I also sip chicken broth, lick a spoonful of peanut butter, or blend yogurt into the milk (this doubles the protein amount but it is still thin enough to drink). Just make sure you are keeping track of your protein intake so you can meet your daily goal. I hope this helps and good luck on your journey.

I you do not get enough protein daily, you will end up losing your hair and muscle. Listen to your DR and get your protein daily. My NUT has me taking 85 grams.

Lets see, a cup of milk has 8 grams of protein, so do the math, if you only take skim milk for your source of protein and you are supposed to be taking in at least 60 grams at first, you would need to drink 7 cups of milk a day. You need to see your DR ASAP!

Alberta, I agree with Shelly. You must get your protein or you will have serious consequences. See a therapist to find out why you do not want to eat

What are you allergic to? There are soy based & egg based protein drinks. Lorraine

You didn't say when you had your surgery. I am 4 months out and I am never hungry. I make myself eat! You could try the unflavored Unjury. I can't stand the flavored protein powder. Put in your milk and you've got 28 grams! I also add it to water with a little Crystal light. I also eat Atkins bars but read the labels! You really need to eat whether you are hungry or not. Good luck. Chris

Nuts are a good way to add protien just a small handful with give you 4 to 5 grams. a 1.5 package of cashews is 6 grams. I put them in a small cup on my desk and nibble through the day. Also tuna and cottage cheese have really good protien and can add it on quickly. Soups made from beans work well also. The shakes are ok but there are lots of regular foods with good protien so the shakes are only needed in the beginning when you are limited on what you can eat.

I am in the same boat. Some days I can eat others, not. When I do force myself, it seems to come right back up. My PCP seems to think psycological (sp) so went to shrink, he thinks it is physical, go figure. I do know that if I go several days without eating then do not lose weight.it seems funny but you have to eat to lose. On days that I am not hungry at all, I eat whatever will stay down...which right now is ritz crackers. I had my surgery 10/25/10 but have been on antibiotics for 6 weeks due to bladder/kidney infection.

Hi I will be having my surgery this tuesday 1/25/11 but to answer your question, a friend of mine that had RNY 10 years ago, introduced me to this protein shakes that he found at Trader Joes here in the north east, I dont know were you are from but if you have a Trader joes go and buy a few cans..even though you are not hungry you do get thirsty..and these protein shakes are absolutely wonderful. they have two different kinds one with 22 grams and one with 35 grams of protein and very little sugar only 1 gram!!! You will be surprised how wonderful they taste...and how I asked my Nut and she knew exactly what I was talking about she said that in order for me to get the right amount of protein intake that I needed that I had to drink 1 and 1/2 cans (they are 11oz cans)but you can deffinately go for the two whole cans. They have vanilla and milk chocolate shakes they cost $2.29 a can but well worth the money spent they are filling and refreshing and not only that but you can actually have them as a meal when your not hungry and it will satisfy your nutritional needs for the the day. I have been using them for 9 months and I love them...there are times in which I am not hungry and so I will have one for breakfast one for lunch and one for dinner and I dont have to worry about it...along with my water intake offcourse...I thank my friend every day for introducing me to them...I hope this helps....Good luck...

In the beginning, I was never hungry. I also drank a lot of milk just to get protein in. It does change though, and the further out you get, you will have more normal days. I still have the occasional day where I am not hungry, but for the most part I can eat everyday.
