I am here in Pa and where I had my RNY in June they did not use NG tubes.
If they did it was removed before I woke up. I did have a urinary catheter
that was removed one day post op but that was no biggy. Hope this
helps......
Good luck...

Keri I had RNY and if they put a tube down my throat I didn't know it
(actually I don't even know what a NG tube is). I didn't go to sleep with
one nore did I wake with one. Also I didn't have any throat issues.
Before my surgery my surgeon went over what was going to happen and he
never mentioned any tube. This being said you really should ask your
surgeons office if they use one or not. None of us here can tell you what
your surgeons proceedure will be.

All I can say is that I have a medical Alert bracelet that specifies
'Roux-en-Y - NO NG TUBE'...so my guess would be no....but do consult with
your surgeon.

Most of the time you get and NG tube and you don't even know it why you are
under. And of course unless you are not allowed one due to medical
conditions. Then they use other means I assume.

What the tube they put in your nose I had Gas byp 30 sept 09 and when I
woke up the tube was in until the next morning at 6:00 sharp I asked to
have it taken out 2 mins to 6A and they said I had to wait. I sorry but to
be trueful the tube was a nightmare.
