Question:
What do you wear?
OK I know it is not a fashion show. ;) I am having surgery on 4-16-08 ... this Wednesday. I have never been admitted into a hospital outside of a car accident. I am not sure what will be comfortable to wear home after having LapBand. Anyone have suggestions? I have a long car ride home and want to me comfy. — ItIsMyTime (posted on April 13, 2008)

Wear something baggy that you are comfortable in. You will be a little
sore after the surgery, so you definitely want something comfortable. I
wore something different to the hospital, and brought my comfy clothes for
the ride home.

I work stretch pants and an oversized t-shirt and was comfortable. I also
suggest bringing a pillow to hold against your stomach for bumpy roads or
if you have to sneeze or cough. It worked for me.

If you have a Chico's nearby go there and buy one of those stretchy
material dresses with no waistline. You will not want to wear a bra as you
will have stitches right on your bra line and waist line. I flew from
Puerta Vallarta to Florida through Dallas and I was so glad I didn't wear
anything that would rub.
That pillow idea is good.

Baggy sweat pants and a loose t-shirt would be my suggestion. You want
something light and loose.

I just had my surgery 4-9-08 and I wore in capri pants and a big Vneck tee
shirt. When I came home I put on the same shirt and wore my loose pajamin
bottoms. I wore a pair of flip flops so they would be easier to put on and
off and I could start walking the halls as soon as possible. I had to wear
the hospital gown while there cause my Dr. had a OnQ hooked up to me. I
was a automatic pain feeder that was insert in my skin close to the port.
I wore that approx. 50hrs until all meds was finally through. That`s why
I think a shirt is better at all times and not a gown or dress type thing
cause if there is any leakage then you will have to change the whole
thing.
Good Luck on the 16th and if your drive is long take 2 pillows to really
get comfy.

There is nothing wrong with wearing your robe and slippers home. You will
have just had surgery. Just be comfortable.

PS - I made the mistake of taking books and magzines to the hospital. I
went home the next day and slept most of the time when I was not walking
the halls. To keep it easy, wear to the hospital whatever you plan to go
home in. You will quickly be changing into a gown, anyway! Bring a robe if
you want, but most likely you can ask for a gown to wear backwards and
won't need the robe. The more you bring with you, the more someone else
will have to drag around and/or you will have to carry when you leave. Keep
in mind, you shouldn't be lifting anything heavy for awhile after surgery.
Good luck,
Dani

I wore loose sweatpants and a T-shirt, with another button up shirt to slip
over the top when I had to get out of the car at rest areas because I
couldn't wear my bra home. I would avoid pants that have a tight waistband,
and I like the suggestion above about a loose dress! Wish I had thought of
that!

soft, comfy w/ a loose waist band. I used light weight sweats with no
elastic at the shirt arms, and waist and leg ends. Easy on & over IV
& tubing. Comfy shoes to be up walking. fli flops or slide on slippers
are not a great
