Question:
What about popcorn?
Are we surpose to eat popcorn? I did and it turned out alright? Just asking if anyone else eats it. — Tana Mallard (posted on April 21, 2007)

When I first tried popcorn which was too early, my pouch wasn't strong
enough for it and it was scarey to me and it took me a while to try it
again. May 2007 will be 2 years post-op for me and this month I tried
popcorn and I have no problem at all. The small bags are just enough for
me.

I eat it also but I have heard you should not since it does not fill you
up.

I love popcorn. I eat it everyday. I am almost 5 months post op and have
lost 80% of my excess body weight. I look great and I feel great. Popcorn
is nice because it has protein, it is low in calories and low in fat. I
love it..so I say, if you can handle it and it doesn't make you sick...pop
on!

It depends on how far out you are. It amazes me at how little (or none)
nutrional support everyone on here had before/after surgery. One of my pre
op MUSTS was to meet with a Nutrionist, and they are readily available
after surgery as well. Popcorn has a great deal of fiber in it, avoid it
until you are ready to advance to solid foods-- about 4-8 weeks after
surgery. This is according to my certified Nutritionist who specializes in
nutrition after wls. Good luck!

Hi Tana, I love popcorn! It is great for me. My only concern for you
would be that you are not even 6 months out yet. Popcorn can expand in
your pouch, and it can take away from the protein you would have otherwise
eaten. Just be careful for snacking at this stage, but a small portion of
popcorn, if it works for you, would be ok. I usually get a small bowl,
and fill it up, and that is my limit. We MUST learn to limit what we eat,
voluntarily, or we will overeat again and regain weight, so just be on the
look out for those things and enjoy in moderation popcorn. Just be
careful! Patricia P.

I had it once at about 10 weeks out and had no problem. Couldn't eat too
much though, like everything else!

My bariatric surgeon forbids popcorn ever. Most people I have talked with
say their Dr. says it is okay after six months. I am seventeen months out,
I eat it, and have had no trouble. But, I think the concern is early on
before the stoma heals and it can get caught and have to be removed.

I eat popcorn but my first was not until about 7 months post-op. **Don't
overdo it!**

My doctor told me not to eat popcorn until Im six months out. He said your
body does not digest popcorn good and it can cause blockage.
